I went to hang out...

at my 4-year-olds preschool for a little while yesterday, and as I scan the forum here from time-to-time, I come to the realization that those 4-year-olds have an equal to, or greater than, maturity level than a good portion of this "adult" community. This is the main reason I don't actively moderate anymore. If I wanted to babysit a bunch of immature human beings, I would have much more fun at my son's preschool than I do here.

I woud like to start by saying I am certainly not against the use of condoms, to the contrary in fact.

To me the biggest bonus over "the pill" or other methods is its protection against STDs, which is particularily important when having frequent changes in sex partners

I don't deny the disadvantages of birth control pills at all but I think some people would be surprised about the relatively low succes rates of condoms. I was surprised myself when I read the first time that women who use condoms, still get pregant quite often (depends partly on good usage of the condoms or not and on sex frequency ofc but on avg somehwere around a 7-10 % chance to get pregnant each year)

How efficient is condom?
In: Health [Edit categories]
Answer:
It is important to understand that condoms are effective tools in two principal areas: contraception (birth control) and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

As far as efficacy of condoms go, I am going to rate them as they would be rated when used properly and consistently. Otherwise, the statistics are just not viable.

Rating a condom's effectiveness against HIV/AIDS transmission, according to a published study by the NIH and the WHO, a condom reduces the risk of disease transmission by 80-95%.

Rating a condom's effectiveness against unwanted pregnancies (contraceptive use) varies a bit. If a man is properly using a perfect condom under perfect conditions, the efficacy rate can be as high as 98%. However, conditions that are more realistic have given way to studies that target the "typical" use of condoms. These studies have dropped the efficacy rate to anywhere between 90% and 93%. For purposes of contraception, condoms can be combined with spermicides for enhanced protection, increasing efficacy under ideal conditions to 98% to 99% rate of successful prevention. Thankfully, most condoms are pretreated with a spermicide. You actually have to look for condoms that are not pretreated these days.

I feel impelled to mention that a condom is only as effective as the person using it wants it to be, and sadly, they are not foolproof. Condoms can break, tear, and slip off, but the chances are not high, so be smart and remember a few things. Some tips to keep you safe:

lol does that ever happen in real life? ive never heard of a woman who decided that getting pregnant was the obv solution to having periods. not like the periods arent coming back in about 15 months. and then youve got a kid (or more kids) to raise too.

and fwiw, i dont mind using a condom, never agreed with the popular it-feels-better-without argument.

lets make this 200.
