Obama clearly lied to Democrat voters about his intentions of repealing the Patriot Act. Meet the new boss; same as the old boss. http://youtu.be/gF3MC-TkpRQ @BO, how can you support someone with an obvious lack of integrity? A few days back you praised the Libertarians for standing against the Patriot Act's renewal. Obama could have killed the Patriot Act with his veto; what's the deal? Maybe it's time you came over to the good side. |

at 2:10 PM, Saturday May 28, 2011 EDT I'll definitely check out the video and respond; when I get some free time later to watch it.
As far as Atlas Shrugged, I disagree that the premise of the book is that the producers WILL strike. It is that they should recognize that they are the motor of the world and SHOULD strike if subjected to the circumstances in the book. There is a distinct difference; btw definitely read it. There is a very good reason for it being the second influential book after the Bible. (Library of Congress) But the bottom line is that Atlas Shrugged is one aspect of Ayn Rand; there is also a political philosophy and history. The political philosophy is one that is very similar to libertarians. And the history is very similar to your grandfathers. Ayn Rand was smuggled out of the USSR by her parents. It was the last day see ever saw or heard from his father, mother, and sister. In fact she has no records of what happened to them at all. |

at 2:28 PM, Saturday May 28, 2011 EDT My father was the one that immigrated to the US, my grandfather was put in jail for speaking against the government back in the 50s. He eventually died from an illness he caught in jail. My dad was born in 1950 so what he knows about the 50s comes from his family by the time the 60s and 70s rolled around the Soviet Union was a full fledged police state.
My dad defected to the States in 1973. My mom grew up in Franco's Spain so I my mom's told us as kids about that too. For extremes of the left and right, respectively, they had a lot in common. That being said it's surprising how much a russian atheist's writing resonates with americans. |

at 3:04 PM, Saturday May 28, 2011 EDT ok, thraxle, can I have your bank statements, your health reccord, a complete cellphone reccord, and a list of all the pages you browse?
I will keep it all in a box, and have a computer software scan it all for suspicious behavior. problem is; there is always a crime that can be found, the moment I decide that your political speach is too agressive, or to popular, all I have to do is to figure out ONE of the more than 11000 different federal crimes that can be comitted, scholars are actually unsure about how many there are. I have your taxt reccord, great, surely you can say with you hand on your heart that you are in compliance with ALL of the provisions of the Internal Revenues Service? after all, it is not like even the people that work there have trouble remembering, and undstanding all of the provisions. a crime can always be found, it is just a matter or chosing to find it, and with this survailence it require so much less effort, so that one can do many more, if deemed neccesary and golfball talking about intrusion into private lives of private citizens... i talk about smoking weed, etc.. all the time on my phone. am i worried about the feds barging into my home? no.. WHY you might ask? BECAUSE THE FUCKING LEGISLATION IS INTENDED ONLY TO STOP TERRORISTS. EVEN IF THEY CAUGHT A MURDERER USING THEIR SURVEILLANCE, IT WOULD BE INADMISSIBLE IN COURT. MY GOSH, YOU GUYS ARE FUCKING RETARDED. PATRIOT ACT DOESN'T AFFECT MY PRIVATE LIFE, NOR WILL IT BE USED TO FUCK ME FOR TAX EVASION. |

at 4:14 PM, Saturday May 28, 2011 EDT Wikipedia says that sort of thing would be legal - assuming you were already under surveillance. Besides why would you even want to allow the government to become even more powerful I thought conservatives were against that. I won't even invoke the slippery slope argument here.

at 4:50 PM, Saturday May 28, 2011 EDT the funniest thing about this resigning of the patriot act was the fact that some politicians were trying to say it was invalid bc he used an auto-pen to sign it.

at 8:15 PM, Saturday May 28, 2011 EDT uglygolfball: "While true, this isn't a defense for Objectivism, nor am I promoting this as a philosophy, so this statement has no relevance, only to point out what we all already knew. "
Well I'm not an Objectivist so I don't feel I have any reason to defend it against random trolling. Let's face it's kinda ironic that you are insulting the intelligence of a woman who's thoughts and philosophy has helped shaped modern politics. And who's book, Atlas Shrugged, still routinely appears on Amazon's best seller list decades after her death. "From 2000 through 2008, the 50-year-old 1,088-page tome sold about 166,000 copies a year. Since Obama was sworn in, more than 600,000 copies have been sold. That's 530,000 more than it sold in its first year of publication, when it was reviewed by more than 100 literary outlets." (Slate) So in your words; her writing is moronic. Yet she is hugely successful; and you troll the boards (and chat rooms) looking for who knows what (attention?) and bumping random random threads in the hope that maybe a few hundred people may read. So my point is not to defend Objectivism; but to point out the absurdity of you trolling ways and then later expecting to be taken seriously when calling others moronic. |
