But just so there's no confusion those on the left (especially progressives) have no interest in dictating how society or individuals should be or behave. At the same time those on the right very much do have a stake in dictating how society should be and forcing it to behave in a certain way (see: blue laws, sharia law, abortion, fireworks, etc). Progressives have a vested interest in PROTECTING civil liberties and that includes economic liberty from wage slavery, manipulation, and exploitation. You wonder why we have so many regulatory agencies? It's the same reason we have a fucking police department. You can't be so naive that you think the only threat to your well being is a burglar or invading nation can you?

You posit your beliefs in libertarianism as if we always had a large federal government that regulated everything. The reality is we didn't and you know what -- it doesn't take 5 on an AP test to open a history book and get a taste of what society was like in those days. Can you honestly say to me that your 1880 counterpart was safer and more capable of providing for himself or his family? Yeah that's probably why his kids were working in a factory. You seem almost proud of your ignorance. Your putrid political philosophy hasn't taken off anywhere else in the world for this reason: WE TRIED THAT and IT DIDN'T WORK.
