The proof is in Virginia's turnout. Exactly a year ago, an impressively high two thirds of all eligible Virginians voted, a slim majority of whom (52 percent) swung for Obama. The number dropped by double digits this week, which by itself cripples comparisons between the two races. But where the numbers really skew are in the demographics. A year ago, young voters, who usually vote Democratic, were 20 percent of the electorate; today the number was barely half. Among people over 60, who tend to lean conservative, the number doubled from 11 to 21 percent from last year. So really, it?s not exactly the case that the same voters from last year changed their mind after taking Obama for a test drive.

There are lots of choices Shevar. Anyone can be elected, theoretically.

Thrax is just desperate, he is clutching at every straw he can get...

These elections weren't even about the White House, were they??? They were about local politics, if I'm not wrong.

Also: It's true that Virginia was ruled by a Democratic Governor before, but he was not allowed to run anymore. So even if the Democrats did a good job there, they had no "office bonus".

In New Jersey, the former incumbent governor was involved in various scandals... (can happen in both parties). So no wonder a Rep got elected...

Dunno what kind of sign you can see there Thrax...

Okay... if the Reps conquered 10 other states, too, but only two?!

I agree with your points das, voter turnout is what won the election for Obama. Most of those same people aren't interested in politics outside of him.

And moon, I'm not grasping at straws. Governor of VA hasn't been Republican for awhile. NJ is traditionally left. Those are big wins and it's not "only" about local politics no matter how the White House wants to spin it.

I hope Obama enjoyed the Bulls/Bucks game last night.

Since it isn't California it doesn't really matter, but anyone involved in NJ politics is pretty dirty no matter what party they are right?
