Just another example of the sillyness that transpires in our country all in the name of "equality". |

at 10:47 AM, Monday October 26, 2009 EDT 1) What is your problem here?
This is a question that requires discussion more than a simple one sentence answer. I simply don't feel that this behavior is something you are born with. A series of events has to occur to force a reaction such as this. Making this mainstream news or socially acceptable will simply create more people of this demographic. 2) What exactly do you want? Just a discussion........and maybe another 100 post thread. |

at 11:13 AM, Monday October 26, 2009 EDT the smart people thing was a joke. although I don't think anyone's going to actually say W&M isn't a bunch of smart people. Much like another "Public Ivy" in this state...but I digress.
"This is a question that requires discussion more than a simple one sentence answer. I simply don't feel that this behavior is something you are born with. A series of events has to occur to force a reaction such as this. Making this mainstream news or socially acceptable will simply create more people of this demographic." Why is it an issue if more people come out as transgendered? I don't see any problem with transgendered folks entering a school's popularity contest, despite the dictionary's definition of the word "Queen." I'm not transgendered, I don't know if you're born with it or not. But, I don't think you can write off someone's identity just because its different/unusual. People aren't as cut and dry as Gay/Straight, and I assume you aren't someone who thinks homosexuality is choice, so what's the issue with someone being born somewhere in between? Like I said, I don't know (or care) either way, but I don't find it a difficult leap to believe folks who feel they are born that way. Anyway, I understand the complaint/image that being progressive can go to far into political correctness (i.e. the South Park episode where dude wants to turn into a Dolphin). However, accepting the identity wishes of someone who is transgendered, to me, is just a matter of tollerance and understanding. |
