Number of posts (include all those "me too" messages to bump up your numbers), number of members (regardless of their engagement or visi tfrequency) all can make you look good with out ever really surfacing whether the community serves your business and customers well.

We do sales and marketing materials always able to fool people into thinking they are educational based.

Look at who wrote the article; it is the CEO of a companies selling community consulting/products.

The process works like this:

1. CEO hires PR Firm.
2. PR firm authors articles with plugs for the company.
3. PR firm uses connections with blogs / news websites to get the article picked up.
4. Viola; press for your business

Moral of the story: Don't get your facts from commercials.
