at 7:16 PM, Wednesday June 24, 2009 EDT The US has plenty of soccer fans, the problem is we have plenty of other more established sports that have more viable economic backing.
The simple truth of the matter is that the best athletes find themselves with more incentive to play other sports at a young age. Soccer is a team sport and a sport that requires serious effort to play. Baseball, you got 1 or 2 jobs to do depending on where you play. If you a singular athlete Basketball is more attractive. Football players can't run more then 40 yards without getting tired. Soccer you gotta go for 90 minutes especially if you are a star. |

at 7:40 PM, Wednesday June 24, 2009 EDT Soccer is a good sport and it certainly requires conditioning, but so does basketball. And Sam, although I understand what you are saying about American football, it is obvious that you have never played it. While linemen may fit your statement, try playing wide receiver or defensive safety and tell me that you get tired after running 40 yards. Also, the issue of intense physical contact comes into play. There is a big difference between playing relatively unscathed and hammering into an opponent play after play.
