I played lot back in September 2007 and I've just returned for a few games here 1.5 years later.
Interesting observation is that the culture of the game seems to have changed. The new flagging behaviour reduces the value of corner bases. In the past with a base in the corner you could hold out while players in the middle were consumed by the victor. Now instead those players flag to the victor, and you're to die as the "weakest" player. I'm not so sure this is a positive development. |

This is a change in the social dynamics and frustrated some as people are less willing to fight and risk a loss instead they shoot for what they define as the top spot they think they can get. The idea of turning a 2 stack start into a win is silly to people that think they will be happy to turn that start into anything other than 5th, so they are happy to flag if they fall into a better place over maybe trying to get even higher. Very few people play to win a game, when they can make points easy without much effort. It is silly some of the early flags, people don't bother to try to read the board. They just focus on who got the best start and how they can flag to them. So your neighbor that just moved so you could connect or maybe who could be a good ally for a chance to win, you don't play nice you vflag to the nice start and kill the neighbor. Other things like that. Some adapt, some don't. People suck now, my opinion, they sucked back then too, again my opinion. The biggest change since elo is that people play to earn points, over just playing a game. |
