Truces are unfair?

To me truces are part of the game, and knowing when to truce is a skill!

Recently I cross lots of people that almost rank it as PGA... saying it's unfair, that it'll give you a bad reputation?!

Are those just new comers that don't get the social aspect of the game? What do you think?

Their reputation to give favours, this reputation obtains favours in later games.

Storm, you display remarkable tenacity in holding on to a belief that is intrinsically false and so I will leave you with a paraphrase of a quote from Mark Twain:

"It ain't what a man knows that makes him a fool, it's what he knows that ain't so."

If everybody played each game like it was the last, a rational player would backstab every time. People don't play like it's their last, they give small favours in order to obtain favours in future games. The favour will not necessarily be obtained from that specific player in a later game. The favour will be obtained from another member of this group of players. The so called 'honourable' players who respect flags etc... (when it's not in their best interest in the current game to do so). These players accept everybody into their group by default, but when you refuse to do a member of this group a favour, you will be outcast from this group and will recieve no favours from players of this group.

I'm told that it's not favour trading but a playing style/behaviour/reputation. These are all abstract concepts, but the basis behind them all are the same. "I behave this way, towards you, if you behave the same back." GAME-TO-GAME FUCKING FAVOUR.

There comes a time in every argument where somebody either agrees with the other party, or the two parties agree to disagree. I think we have reached that time in this discussion and the latter is going to have to suffice this time.

The point of the matter is why should anyone ever truce a player that openly admits they will backstab them as soon as they have acheived their goal in that game? The answer is that you don't truce that person since they are not trustworthy. It's a reputation you can choose to have and it does affect the treatment you receive from game to game. This game is not based on a "final game scenario". There will always be another game after the one you are currently playing. That's why it's a monthly competition. The "playing style" we have tried to describe isn't game-to-game favors, it's just a playing style. Truces are neccesary to be successful in KDice and if you are reputed to not honor those truces, they will not be readily available.

Call it what you want Storm, but you're in the minority (or alone) in your way of thinking.

Yeah MDD, it is unclear who owns the quote. I have seen it attributed to Mark Twain before, which is how I remembered it. One link of several:

But I also see it attributed to Josh Billings:

I wish they could get their attributions straight. :)
