How do top players get so many points?

Ever wandered how top players make so many points? Some will say skill. Unfortunately, kdice is more about luck than skill. Well, they must play a lot of games. Look at top 10. They don't play that many games. Well, maybe they got lucky. But then how would you explain that the same people are in the top 10 month after month after month. The answer actually is very simple, they truce. They play together, they truce, and they almost always get first places. But wait, where is the evidence? I played on a table with shadolin and MidWilly, both players with a lot of trophies. First shadolin didn't respect my flag. Then, when I got lucky and was close to killing him MadWilly stepped in although he was flagged to help him. Another top 10 player just stayed watching how thing as they killed me. They didn't even hide the fact they were truce. I watched their next game, exactly the same way they stole points from other players. So it's not about skill, or luck, it's about trucing with your friends. Shame on you MadWilly, shame on you shadolin. How low of a human being do you have to be to cheat to get virtual trophies mad of pixels? I am not saying all top players are like that, but a lot are.

Honestly you fuckers could try to not truce so much though ;-)

Grue has a point about leaving weak players alive, this really makes games dumb, and I tend to try to rally against leaving players alive that you could make better use of by killing.

To often I see people make the wrong move because of their past relationship with someone.

I just feel flattered my name is mentioned in an original post after months. I take the accusations as a compliment of being able to master the game in a fair extend which the original poster doesn't feel the need to comprehend.
While you the original poster already showed his lack of willingness to understand i refuse to try to lay it out to him another time.

I disagree Sam, if I verbally agree to an alliance I honour it whatever the size of the partner.

If I knew someone was going to dishonour an alliance (he had in previous games) what would be 'wrong' with countering and backstabbing him before it happened? It would be in my self-interest to do so. Now this situation wouln't have arisen if the person hadn't dishonoured alliances in previous games.

Thrax, with all due respect to old players, finding out a website years or months later has nothing to with being an elite player...It's a game which a person with an avarage intelligence can understand "to do" or "not to do"s of the game pretty easily in a few hundred games...There are 12 years old chess players that beat old and experienced chess players...And again intelligence is not enough ofcourse cause u also may or will need social skills.People that does not speak english or even people that doesnt speak it fluently will have a hard time...

Stormlord what you are saying is in no way relevant or counter to what I was saying. Thank you for your contribution.

Master, I didn't say that old players are better than new players. I simply countered imanema's statement that new players without "friends" won't be successful on a monthly basis. Shad is the obvious example to use in disproving that theory. He was able to crack the top 3 in just his 2nd full month of playing here. He didn't have any relationships at that time with the "upper tier" of players. So any noob that says it can't be done is flat out WRONG. The style of play on higher tables is different than the 500's and below. This gives a player 2 options:

1) Don't play the high level tables
2) Adapt your game to the more political styled game that is used on the high tables

Unfortunately most people that don't have success there choose a different option

3) Lose points and complain that everyone else is cheating.

you know imanema, you got a lot of things totally wrong.

kdice is not more about luck than about skill. after a couple of games luck evens out. sometimes you fail a 4v3, but sometimes it is you who defends it.

the same people in top 10 month after month? did you even bother to check the month archives? if you do, you will see that only a few players were capable of getting top 10 three or more times in a row. and those players either play a lot or they are just damn good at this game.

take a look at your stats. you are not good at kdice, you are average at best.

however, true skill could only be determined on anonymous boards. on regular tables the social skills are as important as strategic skills.

I would agree partially with Captain Lagers comments, although I must state that I myself am not a top point table player.

I would however add that although top players may not deliberately truce time and time again it seems inevitable that they will form ties with each other as they end up playing against each other on the high point tables more often than not. Whether this leads to deliberate favouritism is debatable, but it probably influences a lot of decisions at those tables. Reputation and kudos also come into play, although again you only gain these by playing regularly at the top tables.

As Shevar states a completely anonymous kdice would possibly put more weight on skill. In the meantime though it would seem the solution for non 'top players' would be to be a little less precious of your points, learn the playing style at the top tables and establish yourself. To be fair, most of the 'top players' who have commented on this thread have also alluded to this.
