Thank you everyone for participating in ASQI. There is one more part for "proof of concept" and then I will make my point. Will the following players make sure to answer to ASQII? Everyone else is more than welcome to participate, but I need to make comparisons.
Leek Step, JPC, Thraxle, MadHat_Sam, MasterDD, Fcuku, Mr Kreuzfeld, Bcmatt, Les, ji-jp, Mikeypoo,Penn, and Ma1achai. You are sitting at a table with 6 other players you have never had contact with. They know nothing about how you play, and you know nothing about how they play. Here is some information on the game that is about to start. -You are sitting at a 100 table in the Final 2.5k Tournament. -You are sitting brown. -Respectively, the other players at the table have 225, 365, 50, 25, 100, and 75 points. -You have 150 points. -There are no known PGA's at this table. -The table is 35 areas large. With this information in mind, how do you play this specific game? |

at 7:43 AM, Tuesday January 20, 2009 EST In tournaments, I tend to play VERY conservative unless my start is really good. If I have a tough start, I'll simply try to connect for a base of 3 lands and stack high, doing my best to negoitiate position through the chatbox. Third or fourth place is usually pretty attainable if you chat actively with the leader(s).
If I have the chance for first, and get to choose who lives or dies, I will generally smack down the players with the most points early in a tournament. Towards the end of a tourney, I'm more apt to kill the lower point players in an effort to ensure higher placement in the payout. |

at 9:48 AM, Tuesday January 20, 2009 EST As my style of play,i would just play for a position not worse than 4,to stay in the tourney,in this case any place won't be enough to eliminate me...So now there are two options, eliminate the low points to decrease the amount of players in the tourney or if i can't be 1st,be sure that 1st player is a player that has lower points than me...I would pick one of these, but as i said before i wouldn't care any outcome since i wont be eliminated if i am not 1st...

at 10:05 AM, Tuesday January 20, 2009 EST Like others before me have commented, it depends on what part of the tournament this game takes part in.
If it is at the beginning or middle of the tournament, I am playing similar to my previous posting for the 0 and 100 tables. Go for first (somewhat aggressively) if I think I have a good shot depending on my start, however a 2nd or 3rd will keep me growing and alive. Achieve this by grabbing a few connected lands early and using the chatbox to ensure that if there is an obvious first player, he knows that I am no threat and that I will help him get that first. I do not worry about tourny strategy at this point. Later in the tourny when we are down to a single table (or close), I still do not target top point players to try to kill first... I just don't. Maybe that is a tourny flaw of mine. I do tend to be more aggressive in getting positive points... and if I feel like I am coming close to going home, I might target some low point players to try to take out first to bump my final position. I never go into a game thinking that I will 'gang up' on the points leader... at least I do not consciously do this. I generally try to let the board that is given determine how I am going to play each game. Like was previously said, this is not necessarily good tourny strategy... and maybe that is why I don't do as well in tournies as some other players. I do well enough for me though... so I'm not going to change the way I play just for some points. |

at 10:55 AM, Tuesday January 20, 2009 EST I again second jpcs sentiment.
But really you play the game the same way fucktard, you kill shit and try to win. But like I said last time, if it is you, you get a PGA to sit with you so you have a guaranteed place kthxbye. |
