i believe this potential amazing game is heading in the wrong direction. i love kdice and like many others have watched this game change so many times.
i have been around since around jan/feb last year (in the ELO days) under a couple of alts. i believe the backbone to this game is amazing and we all loved the fact dicewars had become multiplayer, but i think its changed for the worst lately. i know of a lot of players who dont play this game anymore because the passion is not here anymore. it has become a team based game where the fight for first is decided and not earned. thats not the way, and im sure ry will back me up here, is not the way he wanted his game to evolve. ry, if u read this, i would like to put forward an idea. i propose that anonymity is key in the development of this gaame. even if we try it in sandbox or whatever, i believe this is the way to stop cheating and crappy democratics at the tables. no names = no cheating...PERIOD i think that keeping the monthly comps and stats wud be a cert obv, but if players dint know who they were playing, then thats brings back the excitement factor to kdice. i know this is a social game etc, so i also put forward another propsal: a global chat area where players can have convo about whatever they want. but in game, no player chat. now i have thought long and hard about this idea, and others as i love this game and really want to see it evolve in the right way, there wud be flaws and im sure someone will point them out. i used to play in excess of 300 games a month when i was addicted but now im lucky if i mange a couple a day. i switch kdice off whether i win or lose cos the fun factor is slowly slipping... one last point that i think backs my idea quite alot...ask yourself this... 'why did u join kdice?' 'was it to make friends or play a war game?' this is a game not a networking site...try facebook or myspaz but i want the fun back into kdice. thoughts? and thanks in advance for positive feedback, would love to her from ry awe |

at 11:45 AM, Friday August 29, 2008 EDT my main problem with kdice is boredom/motivation to play but that is not new, that's something that has been there since ELO ranks were abandonded: you need to play a lot of games to have a top5 spot. After a while it just gets boring to have to win 3-5k a day to keep your rank. I tried a few months but at some point I just stop. So now I usually try to get my monthly top25 and that is enough for me. Maybe if the scoring system would change in a direction that is independent of number of games played (PPG with at least 100 games; 1st% + {2nd%/2} + {3rd%/4};...), I might set higher goals again...
I am really looking forward to the MTT's since that seems to get rid of my 2 biggest problems with kdice (higher fun factor + hopefully also less opportunities for cheating) so I am still convinsed that kdice is heading in the right direction with MTT. |

at 1:41 PM, Sunday August 31, 2008 EDT thanks for the reply nuf and no offence intended but u are one of the player i speak of. i know ur popular among the top players and thats cool making friends etc... but i (and others, thanx poo =P ) want to try and put a point across that kdice has become a more socialble game than i think intended.
the other point i want to pick upon that u entioned nuf, is anonymity would increase cheating. how? if cabal/anti cabal, whoever dnt know what colour their 'team' is playing nor what table, how could they cheat more easily? please note, i am not having a go, not do i want to single out people, i am barely responding to ur reply which i appreciate. we all want kdice to be perfect and my perfect kdice is how good u are on the tables and not how good u are with a keyboard... awe |

at 8:43 PM, Sunday August 31, 2008 EDT hehe, I played with my legos alone all the time AMO!
I think that if Ryan is seriously looking to reduce the possibility of cheating, the game will have to change dramatically in a certain sense. If there was some way to make it all for one and none for all, that would work, sadly. Perhaps no loss of points as suggested in another thread? Think about it, my brother freaking quit because of the loss of points; while it's not that bad now, it's still frustrating to want to sit down, win a few, and turn up cold for four-five games straight. That's where the addiction comes in.If you give only a certain amount of points per win or points only to the winners, that might fix it. I agree with Awesomeness on how anonymity will increase cheating, how so? And as far as the networking comment, I find myspace and facebook retarded and I rarely actually do any networking other than denying application invites. |

at 8:46 PM, Sunday August 31, 2008 EDT Also, I just thought of this: Ryan, is it possible to randomize seating like you're going to do with MTT, but sort of like a lottery? say, in the periods between games, have players join in a "lottery" where, after a certain amount of time, the game will start and the players will be randomly chosen to sit. I'm pretty sure this sounds similar to what you might apply to MTT, but I think that you can also use it for KDice, although PGA's may still be possible if you kept teams.

at 11:54 AM, Monday September 1, 2008 EDT Anonymity, with random sitting, obviously will stop cheating. Anonymity (and no chat) without random sitting will provide cheaters of an easy way to cheat using any IM program, without giving the other players a chance to figure out what's going on.
I probably missunderstood your idea. Btw, I've built two unknown alts in August to 10k points each in 100 games... not so bad. Not all is about social relationships. |

at 1:36 PM, Monday September 1, 2008 EDT im not denying ur (or anyones) ability on the table however u know as well as i do that there are loads, too many imo, games that players get finishes and points they dont deserve in that particular game cos of who they are. any1 can try and argue that but its a fact!
would appreciate an additional response from ryan as im keen to hear what he has to say also, any chance of a sandbox mode to see if this version would work or a similar version, u know, w/e suits you awe |

at 2:34 PM, Monday September 1, 2008 EDT AMO, your statement that no names=no multiplayer is just wrong. The moves of a bot will never be able to simulate the gameplay of a smart person. I have played games where nobody said anything and where I didnt know anybody. Still I was able to truce a person. moves can talk.

at 5:18 PM, Monday September 1, 2008 EDT just find a better way to ban "teams" or PGA then things would be a lot better.
i think the presence of the mods have improved the game a lot, no more abusive behaviour, no more porn avatars, no racist comments, etc. i definitely think the game is heading to a better direction, at least 'for the majority' of players here. we all like to customize things to our liking, but sometimes we just have to accept that there are things we can't control. |
