i believe this potential amazing game is heading in the wrong direction. i love kdice and like many others have watched this game change so many times.
i have been around since around jan/feb last year (in the ELO days) under a couple of alts. i believe the backbone to this game is amazing and we all loved the fact dicewars had become multiplayer, but i think its changed for the worst lately. i know of a lot of players who dont play this game anymore because the passion is not here anymore. it has become a team based game where the fight for first is decided and not earned. thats not the way, and im sure ry will back me up here, is not the way he wanted his game to evolve. ry, if u read this, i would like to put forward an idea. i propose that anonymity is key in the development of this gaame. even if we try it in sandbox or whatever, i believe this is the way to stop cheating and crappy democratics at the tables. no names = no cheating...PERIOD i think that keeping the monthly comps and stats wud be a cert obv, but if players dint know who they were playing, then thats brings back the excitement factor to kdice. i know this is a social game etc, so i also put forward another propsal: a global chat area where players can have convo about whatever they want. but in game, no player chat. now i have thought long and hard about this idea, and others as i love this game and really want to see it evolve in the right way, there wud be flaws and im sure someone will point them out. i used to play in excess of 300 games a month when i was addicted but now im lucky if i mange a couple a day. i switch kdice off whether i win or lose cos the fun factor is slowly slipping... one last point that i think backs my idea quite alot...ask yourself this... 'why did u join kdice?' 'was it to make friends or play a war game?' this is a game not a networking site...try facebook or myspaz but i want the fun back into kdice. thoughts? and thanks in advance for positive feedback, would love to her from ry awe |

at 5:06 PM, Thursday August 28, 2008 EDT I really haven't made fundamental changes to the game in the last 8 months. I've also paid much more attention to reseting people who use teams. As far as I can tell things are better so I would disagree with things heading in the wrong direction. But thats just one perspective.
These ideas have come up before and I've considered using them with another version of KDice. However I don't see it as a way to solve problems here. - if you make it anonymous playing people would still be able to team up and there would be fewer ways for other to track this - removing the chat removes a very big aspect of this game: diplomacy. I joined kdice because I wanted to play a war game against real people, which means being able to talk to them. Not having chat would work but it would also alienate quite a few people who like things the way they are. I think it's normal to feel the fun slipping. I doubt anything would be able to hold your interest for years at 300 games per month unless you got paid. A game or two per day is the rate of playing that I think is stable for most people. Play on your work break or a game or two in the evening. This is what I do and although I never make it into the top 100 I really enjoy each game (except those 30% luck games). The problem as I see it at the moment is the monthly tournament caters to the 300 game per month "pro" players. It's not fun to compete at this level because some of these players care more about the points than having fun with the game. I hope to shift the game closer to the casual player in the future. The multi table tournaments are a step in this direction. |

at 5:22 PM, Thursday August 28, 2008 EDT thanks for the quick response guys,
i see what u r saying ry with the whole chat playing a vital part in the game and i agree as there have been many a time, the chatbox has saved my ass. however u said it urself 300 or so 'pro' players spoil the game. dont get me wrong, ive chatted n the majority of those guys are great to chat to but on the table, well u know the story. i play in my breaks at work and the odd game in the evening, but i want the excitement back u know? just before xmas last year was by far the best kdie has been, personally i cudnt get enuf. i actually enjoyed going to work cos i could play kdice for 9 hours a day, now im lucky to play 9 a day. when u say another version of kdice, are u thinking dicewars with no chat, names etc? if so wud u be having monthly comps, cos that wud rock! awe |

at 11:47 PM, Thursday August 28, 2008 EDT Ryan, the problem is that you pay attention to stuff like this (and I like Awesomeness, but completely disagree with him) and don't pay attention to idiots like me. The key to making this game better is LESS REGULATION, not more, LESS CENSORSHIP, LESS PGA CONTROLs. Anarchy makes the game fun!

at 12:36 AM, Friday August 29, 2008 EDT I'm fairly new here but what I have to agree.. Great games ruined by someone pulling up a flag. Usually the #2 player not even trying to win.. just hoping to hold.. I'd gladly pay to be able to joing tables with no flags or no penalty for losing so people will play through

at 12:53 AM, Friday August 29, 2008 EDT Awe's comments are nothing new. I hear them over and over. The quality of the individual game has somewhat been sacrificed for overall points. Winning the individual game is no longer the main point of kdice, rather getting points is the focus. And there are many better ways to get points than to actually attempt to win first place on the merit of good war play. For instance, get first by offering 2nd to someone else, or get 2nd by ensuring victory for someone else. You get the points but the game quality suffers.

at 6:49 AM, Friday August 29, 2008 EDT Hey Awe, I tend to disagree you.
Point by point: "kdice needs to be saved..." Definately not. Kdice is healthy and doesn't need saviours. "i think its changed for the worst lately....it has become a team based game where the fight for first is decided and not earned" The cabal/anticabal wars started in...May07? And seriously I fought for 1st last month, and it was a hard fight, trust me (I lost, sigh). "i propose that anonymity is key in the development of this gaame.....no names = no cheating...PERIOD" In my humble opinion: no names=easier to cheat... In fact, it's a way to avoid knowing who is cheating (and it's useful for me to know it) "then thats brings back the excitement factor to kdice." Well, I still enjoy playing kdice, whether is the 'social kdice' (2500/10000 tables) or the 'focus on a single game kdice' (by playing alts at diferent table levels). "i love this game and really want to see it evolve in the right way" I also love this game, I kinda miss the ELO system, but I like it the way it is. "this is a game not a networking site...try facebook or myspaz but i want the fun back into kdice." The game has evolved more and more to a 2.0 site, and that's the way to success. In fact, more interaction with players would be interesting (map ratings, karma ratings...). On the other hand, I barely can't see any difference between kdice now and 6 months ago. 'why did u join kdice?' 'was it to make friends or play a war game?' I joined kdice to play "dicewars" against people, in a social environment where I can use diplomacy, classify other players style's (and learn of it in future games), and, why not? have good talks with intelligent and funny people (and there are a lot of them here). I enjoy playing the game as it is now, and many people do it. I even enjoy watching games, because I know the players and I know what can I expect from them (I would sit in front the TV to watch a Nadal vs Federer match, not a Player A vs Player B match).
