Thumbs up/ thumbs down

I'm fairly new to the game, but I noticed that there is a lot of discussion about the ways by which one can assess other player's behavior BEFORE playing with him. I mean, when you intend to sit in in a table what are the chances that you will enter each one's profile and read their reviews? And if the reviews are only helping us AFTER we are offended or get screwed by some idiot, is it doing it's job?

My 50 cents: to add a thumbs up/ down feature. My idea is clearly based on the Youtube's comments rating system: next to the player's avatar there would be a balance of negative and positive evaluations, so that someone who has 10 thumbs up and 3 thumbs down would have a +7 balance to be proud of.

In my opinion, this would make it easier to avoid that kind of player that behaves in the internet in a way s/he woulndn't behave personally, which accounts for most of the complaints I've been reading on the forum. The lack of people willing to play with this type should be enough for someone to think twice before acting like a jerk.

Personally, I'd be happy to be able to know beforehand if I'm about to play with a sexist/racist, a PGAer or with someone who buys his way to the 1st place.

Abraços

Further notice: this suggestion should also address requests like "ban this racist!", and the like. Instead of a imposed "hard ban" by the administrator, there would be a "soft ban" by the community, which seems to me fairer and more effective.

This is a good idea. I would vote on it if it were in ideas...

It could be abused.
Not saying that it would be all the time, but I know that there would be people out there who take revenge seriously.

Over a year ago there was a pair who bad mouthed each other wherever they went. They followed each other, saying "so and so cheats!" or "so and so doesn't respect flags" etc.

I'm just saying that people could abuse this by making multiple accounts and voting down.

I still like the idea because that could easily be prevented in a number of ways such as making sure that the two have played each other before at least once or even more maybe.

I'd support it.

Why not just block the same IP address from voting on the same person twice.

or if they did, it would replace their previous vote. Just in case someone changes their mind or accidentally clicks the wrong thumb :P

Right, I did consider IPs, but they can be changed.

yeah, if you made it so that one vote overruled the previous one, this could work.

however, another thing to be taken into account is that often it is the bad experiences which stick with us far more than the good ones. having played a decent, amicable game with someone we don't tend to rush to their profile and write "this person is quite nice" - yes, occasionally, having played a brilliant game with someone, we add them to our friends, but again it's rarely review time. however, after a bad game which has led to insults and temper loss, the knee-jerk reaction is to rush to that player's profile and say something about what a bad experience it is to play them. having an instantly accessible scoring option would only exacerbate this.. and i can imagine that this system would leave a large amount of players with scores deeply in the negative very quickly, thus giving a very biased impression to others.

however, in second thoughts, actually it's possible that this kind of scoring system would lead to competition to be seen as the nicest and have the best reputation, producing a better community atmosphere...

Thank you Femme. I didn't notice the "Ideas" section before, but I ll move the suggestion. I invite you all to vote the idea on the new thread.

Maybe we should let this thread drop.

would there be an easy way to score people, like maybe during the game. If u put in the profile, no one will really use it except the people who hate them. Think about it, no one would pull up the profile to score them jus cus their nice, but more if they pissed them off. So, i think it should be an in game sorta thing
