at 4:44 PM, Sunday May 18, 2008 EDT ***This reply is subject to MY interpretation of how I have been asked to act as moderator***
1) I know some, tiagosilva on xsketch, fiero around here, myself, etc (other mods, feel free to reply here) 2) The rules are common sense rules. Treat others with respect. When disrepect is shown, then warnings are VERBAL and the player is addressed to "watch it," basically. It's when a player CONTINUES to harass someone else, that a line is crossed. It IS up to the individual discretion of moderators. Why is there not a list of specific rules? Because the rulebook would, realistically, necessitate a million pages, with clauses, sub-clauses and situations where condition x applies but condition y does not, then take action z. EXAMPLE: 1) someone says fuck you! - that is ignored, it's lame, but you gotta deal with it 2) someone says that followed by go to fucking hell! - same thing, I will ignore it 3) if this continues and it goes to skullfuking, (which, lol, was mentioned 3 times the other day) - I'll warn the person, cmon, watch your language. EVEN IN THIS SCENARIO I will not mute someone. Reasoning? It HAS crossed the line, but I am addressing it verbally. 4) it's at THIS point where if it goes on and I witness it, that I will moderate. - action taken? Likely a chatban, with a note on the players profile of when their rights will be returned, usually within 24 hours. Why just 24 hours? CUZ THATS A LONG TIME (and more importantly, I leave a note on that persons profile, so if they act up AGAIN, there is a history of infractions, which is more informative to other moderators in general, than mere heresay. 3) The possible penalties include: -Ban of chatbox priviledges. -Ban of forum posting priviledges. -Ban of ability to play at any table. -Prohibit the player from changing avatar. -Reset the players avatar to a smiley. 4) Mods do not have access to chat logs or anything of that nature. Take it to the idea forum, and I do support ideas like this (go check out my idea for xsketch to help people moderate more easily there). 5) Racism is not tolerated, it's just that with all things a person must be WARNED prior to an action being taken. You can talk to mods openly and discuss your concerns and fears, but don't be so hostile in saying 'I DEMAND X' and 'I DEMAND Z' - because we are doing our best to support the community as well as we can. You need to understand, while there is a section of the kcommunity that wishes moderators take more action, there is also a large section of the kcommunity that thinks we currently moderate TOO much and they feel shafted by the new polizei in town. Open discussion is good. So go ahead. |

at 5:10 PM, Sunday May 18, 2008 EDT the death is still near:
1) so there are a few mods on kdice....and natually there are a few INTEPRETIONS of what the rules and penalities are or what by commen sense is unaccepatble or disrespectable. what this means is there are no consistent action from the mods. it's going to be chaos. e.g. one palyer can be banned for doing something, but if another mod is making the call, that player can be ok. HOW IS THIS FAIR? 2) if you haven't notice, a lot on on-line mulit-player games have WRITTEN rules. go to some of the on-line game ads here on kdice and you will find them. so i dont think having rules is too rigid. 3) racism is not tolerated......ONLY when you can proof it or when you are there to see it, right? since you have no access to historic chat (as a lot of them happened there) and you cant possibly be at all the games at all times, i dont see how you can possibly enforce it |

at 6:41 PM, Sunday May 18, 2008 EDT Grunvagr thank you for clearing up. This helps a lot. These peoples negativity and lack of open mindedness is destroying the game. Stop whining about mods. they are doing their best.

at 12:32 PM, Tuesday May 20, 2008 EDT I am a Mod though I mainly play on gpokr and just visit kdice for a diversion. By and large I agree with Grunvagr. Personally I detest rudeness in people but realise that some folks need to let of steam from time to time. Frankly, there is no need for abusive texting and it adds nothing to the game, it can only detract in my view.
I have pre-teen children that like to play here. I do not want them to be called 'cunts' or 'motherfuckers'. I do want them to see lurid acts of sexual perversion on avatars. That is one of the reasons I volunteered to mod. Mods are a bad idea: 1. If you like to post abusive text to others. 2. If you like to spam player notes with insults. 3. If you like to have animated oral sex avatars etc. Mods are not a bad idea if you dislike the above. I know that the community is somewhat devided on the issue, it is the same on gpokr. People in general are always very resistant to change, even samll changes. If, when you had first signed up to kdice, mods were already operating there would be no complaining. Since it has recently been introduced a lot of fuss has been made. IMHO we should let it evolve and watch what happens. I see it as a good thing if my children are spared horrendous abuse. If rascism, sexism and general abuse are reduced I think that is a good thing also. |

at 2:46 PM, Tuesday May 20, 2008 EDT JulesDogg, thanks for your post. finally a voice of reason.
i agree that you need to lash out when you have a bad start, bad luck, or get killed in the first round. but do you really hav to say things like "fxxk you nixxer/faxxot for killing me"? if we allow this, i can see some people using it as an excuse for calling people a nixxer/faxxot, etc. someone has to be te devil advocate in order for the blink to see the light and improve things. |

at 3:56 PM, Tuesday May 20, 2008 EDT I understand where you are coming from Jules. I understand that you don't want your kids exposed to, uh, abuse. I actually agree with you. I see no reason for anyone to get upset about the introduction of mods. I mean, it's an online dice rolling game.
What I don't understand is why you took away my (or rather, IESPLAYDICES~) forum posting abilities for a rather innocent thread. The thread used the word "nigger," but I mean, I saw that word on Forrest Gump on Peachtree TV the other day. I suck at stringing words together but you get what i'm saying here right? My use of the word, for the purposes of humour, were in no way racist and I really don't see how anyone could be offended by it. I know you're just trying to protect the children (!) but like, come on - it's the internet. A quick visit to Youtube will expose your children to far greater abuse then kdice ever will. PS when did everyone catch fag |
