I think there are several factors that lead to this new trend

First is the punishment for not finishing 1 or 2 the new scoring means if you don't look like you can get 1st or 2nd there is no reason to keep playing why play for 3rd when it give you no points

Along the same line eveyone is scared of losing a large ammount of points so they flag early hoping not to lose (which I think is lame but I will admit I have done it)

I would personally llike to see no flags before round 3 but also no dom loss before round 3.

I would also like to see no 2 or 3 flags unless you have less than 8 lands before round 10
