there´s still ONE unfair fact in the DOM-Point-system...

If we say that a good player should get more points then a less good player, I´ve got a problem with following situation:

You start a round, very screwed and with unlucky rolls in your first round.

In round two there is just one territory with two dices...

The whole game is very interesting, balanced powers... a longtime noone can say who will win this game - and no-one flaggs.

You play well - the next rounds you´ve got just two terries, building up your stacks.
You start to expand slowly.
In the end there are 5-7 Territories you´ve got in your corner.
And wow - after all players are executed, just you, a hugh first place and another player a bit bigger then you are rest...

the two little players start fighting the big one.

After the other player had some unlucky rolls and he is reduced to splitted 4 islands, you´re owning now 9 territories. No chance to win this game anymore against bout 20 territories.

So you flag 2nd. And you earn 21 points for this 2nd place.

After a long game where you gave your best...!

I don´t know how to solve this unbalanced score-system. but perhaps you have...

+21 in a game where you have a very bad start is quite alright i think. usually those game give me -930 at a 2500 table.

i think it balances out with the next awesome start you get.

I really think there is a big imbalance in the scoring

I know that it was changed to try and get people to fight for higher positions and peanlize people for flagging early but the opposite has happened people are so scared of losing they flag early and then expect people to honor a early flag.

I really think the Point Dom system is flawed and and really has reduced this game to Kflag.

No one wants to fight anymore just end the game once someone gets big.

Aixo has a point though, and I think that has been a consistent problem with the scoring systems, is that there is no measure of quality of one's game, i.e. a magnificent comeback.

Although, you have to admit there is a veritable difficulty in finding a scoring system that can measure such a thing, so we're a bit S.O.L. on that.

But, all I can is offer support of a minor change since A) it looks like Ryan will have to deal with forum changes before anything else and B) any changes in scoring system, no matter how minor, is a hassle in kdice :)

Score-systems _are_ unbalanced by nature. You weigh certain points, others are neglected. It is the fact, that the system is the same for everybody makes the unfairness shrink with every game you play, statistically.

It´s just the point, algios, that it´s ok to be punished for "bad luck" - that´s part of the game and statistically the same for everyone.

But if you made a piece of good, hard work, you wanna have also a nice loan. Not only the fact that you didn´t lost some points perhaps.

You deserve more...

I know what you mean, aixo. I see a lot of games where players that played well and ended up in high positions go home with extremely low scores.

I think the problem is that it's really hard to see why you've scored so low. There's no mention of dominance in the How-to-play and the FAQ has only the vaguest description. Ingame, all you see of dominance is some seemingly random numbers that are bigger for players with more territories. For anyone who hasn't studied it in some depth, dominance is a vague and uncertain thing that does something to your score that just doesn't seem to make sense.

And even if you know how dominance is calculated, it's usually largely out of your control. How many lands you can (safely) take is mostly determined by the luck of your initial draw and first few rolls. Overstretching is good for dominance, but very counter-intuitive if you're interested in a safe strong position.
