great game, broken multiplayer implementation

I used to love playing dice wars, but once I got good enought to beat the computer every time, I started wishing for a multiplayer version ... then I found kdice. It seemed great at first (if a little ugly due to the color choices.)
I've been playing a bit on and off, getting yelled at for refusing to "truce" or do what higher-ranked people say to do, which seemed odd. And now I'm sitting here watching squiggy rack up points by keeping the remaining 3 players down to 1 square each. He won't kill them off, and of course they can't overcome him, and each round gives him a few more points. What a silly scoring system! I'm not blaming squiggy -- he understands the system and is just gaming it for the points. Seems like this, as well as "teaming up" is the standard strategy. :( He has no reason to finish off the game so we can play another, so he sits there milking it as long as those last two suckers will stay in game. Is this an intentional "feature" of this game? Or did someone totally overlook basic gaming principles? It's really a shame that the only multiplayer implementation of this great game is so easily exploitable for POINTS, to the point where games aren't really fun, because everyone is teaming up or milking POINTS. Just my $0.02, have fun point farmers! |

at 7:12 AM, Sunday December 16, 2007 EST I don't like farming myself but I doubt that the blame should fall all on the farmers; there is a flag button, and if the milked players are stupid enought to allow the farming to go on... well they deserve to be farmed; we all know the scoring sistem and it was reformed precicelly to encourage flagging once you see you can't win, and your dom starts going down; if there are fools in the game, that's not the farmers fault

at 9:37 AM, Sunday December 16, 2007 EST also, the game doesnt force players to play opponents of their rating beyond the 10 pt tables. I just sat down at a 10 pt table with 5 other players with rating over 600 points. (And one bitched constantly about the rookie moves those of us with 100pts had.) All of them said they ONLY played the 10 pt tables because they didnt like waiting!? Seems if all of them had gone to the 200 pt table they would have been waiting.

at 1:27 PM, Sunday December 16, 2007 EST FYKK, the humor and irony in your statment is for months people just like you would complain, just like this about the elitism, and their inability to play with high rank players. ryan changes the system so now you can, and others come out of the woodwork to complain about this.
i think this just proves it doesnt help to listen to the minorities' suggestions. |

"great game, great multiplayer implementation, shitty players" I never liked playing dice wars, and after a few minutes i realized how exploitable its AI's strategy was. Of course i only ever knew about Dice Wars because of Kdice. I didn't like it at first, it seemed hard to find a workable strategy that didnt depend wholly on luck (Also the interface is great, i love the colors). Ive played alot, getting yelled at for using simple but effective human-human interaction strategies, or told off by low ranked people i've never played, which seemed odd. And now I'm sitting here watching another one complain about absolutely nothing. He's writing in the forum about how he'd rather have come from Dice Wars and played 6 other humans in this multiplayer gaame that used the same strategy and logic as the bots he'd gotten bored of in Dice Wars. :( He doesn't even realize how much deeper this game is than the simple flash game he prefers, nor does he realize how silly and futile it is for him to wish other humans would play a certain way, his way, just so he can beat them more easily. It's really a shame that this great game is filled with so many people that would really just rather be playing Dice Wars -- to the point wlhere its not even fun to read and reply on this great forum anymore. Just my $.02, have fun robots. |

The farming thing is unfortunate and is fixed in the new version. You can still reduce people to one territory each but can't milk away points. I think rnd is taking this off topic a bit. The history of scoring that you should be aware of is the introduction of a dominance score. This was introduced to give less points to players that hide behind a friend in a corner. The farming thing is a way to exploit dominance, and like i said is largely gone in the next version. If you have any thoughts on further improving things let me know. |

at 4:43 PM, Monday December 17, 2007 EST lol? why in the world would anyone play a game except to beat others? where's your sense of competition ranranran?? clearly, you are not American.
I mean seriously, games aren't fun unless you're humiliating someone or can have bragging rights over them. Playing kDice should not be about having fun, it should be about beating everyone else outright. My goodness ran, you are a silly person. |
