at 1:25 PM, Friday October 5, 2007 EDT The problem is that it is a very sound strategy the way the scoring is set up right now. Coming in second with pathetic dominance gives you more points than struggling and forcing the winning player to wipe you out.
Last night I played a game at a 10 table (kmaz, if you want to play along at home) where I was totally pwned in the first round, so I spent the rest of the game turtling with two territories in the northwest corner surrounded by three other players. It's like Dicewars -- no one could attack me because that would weaken them to the point that the other players would destroy them. So I wound up with two eight stacks in the corner and waited for the juggernaut in the other side of the board to come and wipe out everyone else. Result: second place and +6 points. Everyone else except the winner played as well as they could, but they lost rating. I'd do the same thing as roman if I had a good position except for the fact that I was sheltering someone with two territories. If she spends the rest of the game passing, I've got the strength to guarantee us both positive rating. But if she harasses me, I won't be able to grow out and we both lose rating. It's really an easy decision to say "I will never attack you so long as you don't attack me. Sit back and enjoy the show." And if you don't like people signing asymmetric truces in the third round, take it up with Ryan. He's the one that decided that placement was much more important to rating than dominance. |

at 1:47 PM, Friday October 5, 2007 EDT Assuming no alliances/agreements. When there are 3 players left and the 1st place player is a juggernaut (up by 8 or 9 territories):
If 2nd and 3rd place players are connected - the 1st place player should allow the 2nd and 3rd to fight it out. If 2nd and 3rd aren't connected - 1st place should kill 3rd place. Alliances/agreements, however unfair, should be honored to the bitter end. |

Are you referring to roman, ssergio, batman as the punk kids? It is unclear but their insults are only useful for lowering forum standards |
