To save some time I thought I post some threads from last February when we added dominance. There was the same negative reaction by some people. The point being that change can always be uncomfortable but in the long run its for the better. Perhaps if you don't like the new rules you'll read some of these old posts and see the pattern:
Feb 11, 07: The new system removes strategy and promotes luck and aliances. http://aplayr.com/kdice/kdice/forum/topics/11880319/ Feb 16, 07: sorry, but with the new scoring system.. you've lost me http://aplayr.com/kdice/kdice/forum/topics/12468352/ Feb 17, 07 Dominance system - strongly discourages "comebacks" and defeating 3rd/4th players http://aplayr.com/kdice/kdice/forum/topics/12511759/ |

at 3:26 PM, Monday September 3, 2007 EDT Hey Ryan and everybody else - great work!
I totally appreciate all the good work you've been doing for the new system and in the past. That being said, I'm not a big fan of the new system yet. That is mainly because I like the strategy part of the old system better than the gambling part of the new system. But I'm willing to give it a try. Let's not express 'hate' or respectless comments on both sides of the great divide. I'd say: Play the new system for a month (and I will certainly do that), and then, maybe, we could come to a fair conclusion about what we like and what we don't like about the old and the new. And, hey, if Ryan (and a few others who put some work into it) think this is the way to go - let's do it. I might continue playing or not - but after all, it's their game and we should show some respect and gratitude ... |

I don't hate it bad enoug to swear about, but... I feel like it reduces the number of potentially succesful startegies. I'll be perfectly honest and admit that my personal preference of play styles has been affected, which is probably why I'm feeling driven away. I tend to play conservatively, making sure I survive the initial chaos even if I don't come out of it with large territories. I used to be able to build on that small base, concentrate on slow expansion with minimal risk taking, and I did all right for myself. (I cracked the top 1000, not that it's a huge accomplishment). Under the new system I haven't been able to maintain a positive score, on the test center or on the live servers. The new system favors constant and early expansion, and quick surrender if you can't quickly take the lead. Making a comeback simply doesn't seem to be rewarded. The answer certainly could be "It's a new game, Ben, your style of play wasn't fun for everyone else. Adapt or die". To which I'll respond, "Die, thank you" ;D ~Ben |

I really like this thread. I like to read old threads. I also like to speak in shorts sentences. Like this. "The new system removes strategy and promotes luck and aliances." Compared to: "the new version is more about being lucky" I just find that funny. |

at 11:10 PM, Monday September 3, 2007 EDT all I'm finding is that when a bad roll comes up, the game for you more or less becomes a flagging strategy, so you lose less points. I WISH their was an idea to give each player more control over their fate in a roll, but that's never going to happen...is their any way to fight these unplanned losses? because some of us (me) are experienced but are too lazy to actually strategize a win :)

You can look at the people your playing with on any game, and there are ones with a "high" score (many congrats!) and ones with nothing. there seems to be one real strategy, before you could adopt one of many. Not that I need to be, but I'm not haveing as much fun. |

By Apolloon Mostly of the time I can't see the table so I have to refresh my page and loose my turn. I just finished third and got minus ten. You almost have to finish first to gain any points. The second one can screw you at the end of the game AND flag afterwards when he becomes first! Now i appreciate the effort you put into this but you screwed up by introducing this new game, I'm sorry to say that but I think many people would agree with me. I'm out |
