To save some time I thought I post some threads from last February when we added dominance. There was the same negative reaction by some people. The point being that change can always be uncomfortable but in the long run its for the better. Perhaps if you don't like the new rules you'll read some of these old posts and see the pattern:
Feb 11, 07: The new system removes strategy and promotes luck and aliances. http://aplayr.com/kdice/kdice/forum/topics/11880319/ Feb 16, 07: sorry, but with the new scoring system.. you've lost me http://aplayr.com/kdice/kdice/forum/topics/12468352/ Feb 17, 07 Dominance system - strongly discourages "comebacks" and defeating 3rd/4th players http://aplayr.com/kdice/kdice/forum/topics/12511759/ |

at 12:30 PM, Monday September 3, 2007 EDT Um, no.
I'm saying that we made a change for the better back then and some people didn't like it. But I was confident that it was better. Now many people are following this same pattern and I'm even more confident with the newest changes. I know it hurts to change sometimes but this change really makes kdice scoring solid. Even with the last change I still new the ELO/scoring wasn't ideal. At this point I believe the scoring is solid enough to start building the game and site more. |

at 1:38 PM, Monday September 3, 2007 EDT I will give the new system a fair try... but so far not so good. BTW your argument is not a very good one. Because people complained back then doesn't mean it doesn't suck now. Does that mean that when people praise the new system it actually means that the new system sucks?
The truth is that there is no alternative to what you have created. IMO simpler is better, yet I must give you high praise for your creation... a job well done ryan. |

I wouldn't take the criticisms to hard, people will moan no matter what you do. |

You've really made a great game! (I found it late spring after playing a bit dicewars) I just hope I'll get to be a smarter and/or better player under these new rules, as having no/very low points hurts self esteem :-) -Øystein. |

at 1:52 PM, Monday September 3, 2007 EDT Just because the last change was better, doesn't mean all change is better.
Compare usage graphs over the next month to usage graphs in the month after dom. And while I can see why you'd want this thread to cut down on some of the whining, I can't see it changing any minds. The fact that some other person got discouraged and left last change doesn't mean I'm not going to get discouraged this time. I appreciate the time you've put into this, that can't be said enough. But finding out that people griped last time doesn't exactly make me want to play this new system. ~Ben |

at 3:03 PM, Monday September 3, 2007 EDT i really am not a hater... but i really hate this new version, the old one was established and i dont see why you would change it back if there werent people complaining about it.
I myself and quite a few people have stopped playing since the change... and i know for a fact that the people with lagging problems will suffer badly from the flagging rule... i dont wish to be rude... its just my view... |

at 3:04 PM, Monday September 3, 2007 EDT I'm jfchorn: I'm not trying to prove that this version is better with this thread. We worked for a month testing and refining and we're confident this is a more solid version of kdice. The post just illustrates that change like this is hard regardless of how good it is. The last change was a good change and for the better but it was hard for many. This change is also hard. But making changes that are better for the game is better when there is 30,000 players than when there is 300,000.
