The Test Server Rocks

Hey guys,
I probably will not be playing the main servers this month. Why not? Well, I'm having entirely too much fun playing the test servers! The scoring is quite different, and some stuff is changed, but it's still very true to the spirit of kdice. Test server is here: http://test.gpokr.com:8081/kdice/ Things you should know: - Scoring is very different. Each turn you pay 2 points to continue playing the game. These points go into a common pot. Actually, 2 pots, one for placement and one for DOM. When you leave the game, you withdraw however many points you earned from each pot. If the number of points you put in was lower, you earn a positive score; if you put in more points than you take out, it's a negative score. - 1 share of DOM is earned for each land you own at the start of your turn - The first place player gets 6 shares of the placement pot. Second gets 5 shares, and so on. 7th gets zero shares. - Flagging has been changed to resigning. You can resign the game at any time after round 3. You instantly die, and all your lands turn grey (neutral) and stop accumulating dice. That means no flag whining, no dom raping, and no ninjas. - It's generally wise to resign when you are certain you cannot get a higher place by sitting in, because you are spending points every turn to remain in the game. at 2:24 PM, Thursday August 2, 2007 EDT Sypgo, on the test server, there is a value on your little square (with your name on it) called "Sur". Basically, that's the running total of points you would get if you flagged (Surrendered) right then. It is updated at the beginning of every round, I believe, but just watch it for a while, to see what it does.
The basics of the new game are pretty clear: you "pay" 2 points to play each round. So, if you aren't expanding (or are getting smaller), you are losing points each round. You should resign as soon as you think you can no longer grow. That might be as soon as round 3, if you have a lousy start. If you are in a losing position, the longer you wait to resign, the more points you will lose. So, there's really no upside in "waiting for others to resign". They just don't know what they are doing. Watch your "Sur" score, and it'll become clearer. The key to advancing your score (I think CoMik said) is to make sure that your bad games only cost you 8 - 10 negative points. Then your good games should more than make up for it. I'm not 100% clear on the exact best time to resign... will have to play a few more games first... |

at 4:28 PM, Thursday August 2, 2007 EDT I can't get into this server either. I've tried two different computers where I typed the given address into search, googled, etc. All I keep getting is "not found". Maybe Ryan could post a link on the news page.

at 4:58 PM, Thursday August 2, 2007 EDT on the other hand the game might be more interesting for some. they show poker on TV, but no kdice yet; so maybe making it more like poker is the way to go.

http://test.gpokr.com:8081/kdice/ I have had zero issues, even from (ahem) work. However, it is a test server, so Ryan takes it down to fix issues whenever he feels like it. It isn't usually down long, but maybe you were trying at a bad time. Try again. it's worth it, and there aren't enough players there yet! |

at 1:25 AM, Friday August 3, 2007 EDT Yeah, that's the one gohst. Finally did get in and played a game. Haven't figured out the scoring yet though. 5 or 6 rounds in somebody cut through me to link and my stacks went gray before it got to my turn again. Why?

It is kind of funny that anyone who ever finished top 2 likes to call it skill (Rnd, Cody, Luck), and they completely justify or overlook the fact that they IM and PGA. But Sinth really tops the cake. This guy completely denies all my accusations... then admits that Rnd was his IM PGA buddy, then admits that Artimis was his brother-in-law (not a proxy), but declares that Artimis cant be considered a PGA because Sinth helped Artimis more than Artimis helped Sinth... LOL Sinth, its just stupid to say that all my accusations are false. It doesnt help your reputaiton with the many of people who know you and know the truth. I guess you might fool some people you dont know very well? |

at 6:04 PM, Friday August 3, 2007 EDT Leek, I denied all of your accusations except one, that I PGAd with rnd. That's the only one you got right. 1/20 is a pretty bad hit ratio. I mean seriously, if I really did PGA with other people, it would be dumb of me to say otherwise like this, because I'd just be inviting someone to call me out.
Your choice of words is funny, "[Sinth] *admits* that Artimis was his brother-in-law" [emphasis added]. I said he was my brother-in-law from the very start, I never said otherwise. It was you who relentlessly (and incorrectly) accused him of being my proxy. Also, you're misrepresenting my reason for not calling him a PGA. The bit about helping him out was an aside. The reason I don't consider him a PGA is because we did not prearrange any alliances. We played approximately 2 games in which I helped him out by not attacking himm, and he returned the favor. About the third game he attacked me, and since then we've been more PGE than anything. As I told you, we're very competitive with each other. |
