The Test Server Rocks

Hey guys,

I probably will not be playing the main servers this month. Why not? Well, I'm having entirely too much fun playing the test servers! The scoring is quite different, and some stuff is changed, but it's still very true to the spirit of kdice.

Test server is here:

http://test.gpokr.com:8081/kdice/

Things you should know:

- Scoring is very different. Each turn you pay 2 points to continue playing the game. These points go into a common pot. Actually, 2 pots, one for placement and one for DOM. When you leave the game, you withdraw however many points you earned from each pot. If the number of points you put in was lower, you earn a positive score; if you put in more points than you take out, it's a negative score.

- 1 share of DOM is earned for each land you own at the start of your turn

- The first place player gets 6 shares of the placement pot. Second gets 5 shares, and so on. 7th gets zero shares.

- Flagging has been changed to resigning. You can resign the game at any time after round 3. You instantly die, and all your lands turn grey (neutral) and stop accumulating dice. That means no flag whining, no dom raping, and no ninjas.

- It's generally wise to resign when you are certain you cannot get a higher place by sitting in, because you are spending points every turn to remain in the game.

Bump. We need more players on the test server. Ryan.. we desperately need a front-page link, like the 16-dice game had! ;-)

Thanks,

I wish two different imposters hadnt already registered "leekstep" and "therealleekstep" on the test server. You should link the database from kdice so this wont happen.

Managed to get a game in after waiting around for ages and going around the tables inviting people.

It's awesome, great work !

I managed second, but since I hadn't quite got my head around the score system I nearly gave away all my points; it took a spectator to point it out to me. It's gonna take some getting used to for me.

Hi everybody!
I've only played it twice, so here's a short feedback of what happened:

- I had the impression that you actually lose a lot of points be resigning from the game. I don't really understand the score system, but in our game basically everybody but the winner lost points. In my second game, i got +1 for 3rd and the second got +10. That's not a lot.
- I got +35 points for winning, but when I tried to log in for the next time, I had 0 points again. I know that other people actually have some points. Not sure why that happened.
- Ever since I created my test account with the same name, e-mail, and password as my kdice account I can't edit my kdice profile without having to log in again. I mean, I am logged in in the main kdice frame but not when I open my profile. It's not too bad, but sort of weird.
- I sort of enjoyed the game, but then I also found that there's a lot of unresolved issues. For example, say you're a solid third, but the fourth and fifth player refuse to surrender. So basically you lose points every round, but then you don't want to resign because other people should resign first. Maybe I got it wrong. But in my game, I found a few of the other less experienced players (non was from +2k) to play a bit erratically.
- It's weird to have all the grey dice around. But I guess I can get used to that. It makes for some interesting things on the board though.

Anyway, definitely an interesting idea. Although I'm not sure it can actually lead to something better than the last system. I'll mainly play my kdice account in August.
