Acceptable Trucebreaking?

I need some advise on what I should have done here...Scenario: There were 4 of us left on the table. 2 players were flagged(they were going to take 3rd and 4th). So me and the second place guy had a truce from about the middle of the game. I was in 1st he was in 2nd. So after the 3rd place guy saw that he had no chance to win, he flagged. I thought second place would flag after him and that would be it... Well the second place guy didnt want to flag to me and started attacking the flagged players to try to get first.(*Note he didnt attack me) I thought this was wrong so I started attacking him even though we had a truce.

I was just wondering if breaking truces is acceptable sometimes? Like with this guy he was clearly being an ass attacking flagged players and trying to steal first from me.

I would have done the same thing. If you are in first and the person who is with you doesn't want to accept 2nd, then you have every right to attack him.

In my opinion it was wrong. You should never break a truce. He has a right to take out flagged players in order to try for first as long as he doesn't attack you. In a sense you race to finish first. flagged players simply flag to try to end the game not to say "you can't attack me" > summation it was wrong

Femme Fatale has it right. jcf, just flying the flag doesn't make anyone immune from attack. The key here was that 1 & 2 had a truce and 2 went on to try and eliminate 3 & 4 (lowering their dominance scores in the process) to usurp 1.

So what your saying is that a truce means that you will stay at the same ranking as you began your truce. what if weren't 1st and second at the beginning of your truce... and you truced to take out the #1 player? you have no right to break a truce an attack another player.

When all other players flag, you should either stay in the positions you are in and flag also, or fight for first.

Femme, that was the same thing I was thinking...Once the 3rd and 4th player flags, the second player should also flag to the first player..NO MATTER THE ORDER...If I was second I would have flagged to him. I know everyone says "you can attack a flagged player..blah blah blah" but i just think its a dirty move(unless they are in your way).

never break a truce.

killing off the flags to try to get first is perfectly okay. but it's never okay to break a truce.

Any successful truce ultimately eliminates the competition. A truce is good until there's "no one else to fight", for some common-sense definition. The best thing to do is simply talk to your truce partner and ask how they want to proceed. I've seen all of the following occur:

1) Lower player flags to higher for 2nd.
2) Players agree to wipe out all other players and then fight for 1st.
3) Players decide to fight for 1st immediately.

Each one may be appropriate given the situation. The important thing is that you should agree on something reasonable and fair to both players so no one feels wronged.

The problem here is that the 2nd place player has effectively broken the truce when he begins to play for 1st. So he's fair game as far as I'm concerned.
