Just a couple small changes this month from a few requests:

1) Point distribution has changed giving more to 1st place. Here's the old on a 0 table:
+60, +42, +30, 0, -30, -42, -60
and here's the new:
+100, +50, +25, 0, -20, -35, -50
Where are the extra points coming from? Last month I had thought I introduced the +70 points per game but instead I just raised the amount each player risks by 10. Well, the month had to play out because mid month changes are not cool. This month we have +70 points on all tables (which doesn't mean much on 5000). We'll get more point inflation from this but it should make things a bit more fun and should change game strategy slightly to favor getting 1st over 2nd or 3rd.

2) You can now join member tournies if you bought the one time point bonus but are not a member.

Thats it. Most of my free time this month has been spent getting the iphone single player version done. It's looking good and I hope to get it out soon.

I don't like this change, it encourages grinding on lower tables, because the players there are weaker and the relative payoff is bigger.

I consider the new scoring ok.
it gives more focus on winning a game.
One thing i dont like about it.
Tabel levels are no longer only identified with a certain skill level and pushing players higher upwards. It might be worth consideration to put in 1k tables or some max score limits to 500 and 2k tables (again).
It feels like you adjusted the tourney scoring too ryan?

I really like the improvements to the scoring. Allows everyone to get a higher score since there is less of a penalty for losing. Before I would win a game and then get a bad position at the start of the next game and lose all those points I just won.

Well done Ryan, keep up the good work!

False Grue because once you get up at certain thresholds you can't even play at the lower tables. So you'll have to play the 500 or 2000 tables where the point bonus is a much smaller average weighting versus the total points awarded.

I remember the first time somebody pointed out in the forums that kdice was a positive sum game (circa december 07) and it was a big scandal. Honestly though, it just isn't fun if you get stuck in a 100-900 rating pt quagmire. Let the good players play the 2000 tables or 5000, and let ok players get a taste of dom. Zero sum is just not fun. Glad to see the change back in Ryan.

Grue is mostly correct -- playing at 100 is a nifty way to recover from a few bad 500 pt games (if you get 1st 4 times vs 7th 7 times it evens out) and you need to have more points than I've ever had to get blocked from playing it. Still I don't think it is that bad. Once upon a time I played dicewars for the fun of beating up on the computer 80-90% of the time .. being able to do that in kdice and still avoid the players who are in their very first game is not terribly frustrating and it's generally fun.

Thanks Shevar - I was worrying about my far less than average scoring. You saved my day ;-))

Other than that, the change is fine as the frustration of needing 3 games to get out of 0-tables is taken away and it is easier to stay out of them.

Thanks Ryan

I was correct, it seems. in feb there where 6 players in top 100 with less than 102 games. in jan there was 6 players in top 25 with less than 100 games

Ryan, have you thought about a boardgame version? I have thought about it a lot, and I bought a lot of dices and tested a few different ideas. It's difficult, but I think I have something that could work.
