Getting past the 1800 point

Is anyone else finding it almost impossible to reach the 1800 point. I mean, playing with 1775 or so against 1500 players will only get you less than 20 if you win, and if you get a bad draw, seventh place takes you back 50 points. Even before when there was the gap between 1700 and 2000 it was never this hard. Is it the new scoring system? I'm probably just bitter at my bad luck but I think 200 point intervals would work better. Thoughts?

at 1:45 AM, Sunday December 24, 2006 EST I just made 1800, it took me a while but I wouldn't call it a problem with the points system. I gained the last 60 or so points with a #1 and #2 finish back to back. Certainly a 7th place would have hurt me, but avoiding those is part of the challenge.
Regarding the table intervals, too many of them could make it hard to get games going, particularly at the upper limits. I think that needs to be tuned to the number of people playing so that ideally a table is always forming at each level. Otherwise you might have high ranked players forced to play the lower tables, which would make the issue you describe even worse. |

at 4:19 PM, Wednesday December 27, 2006 EST 1500/1700/1900 would make more sense than 1500/1800/2000. Often enough I find all the 1500 tables are taken.

at 5:22 PM, Wednesday December 27, 2006 EST My personal problem is getting up above 2000. Mainly because I'll get close and then I choke/have bad luck which knocks me back down near the 1800 level again.
I just got 22 points for winning a sub-1500 table, which just barely pushed me back over to 1800. Hooray me! Time to go lose again! |
