A question for the competitive players here

I quite like playing kdice, it's a coffee break thing for me. Sometimes I think I play reasonable ok and think about playing at the higher tables when I earn enough points.
The thing that puts me off is the idea that to make any progress on the higher tables I will be competing against teams or partnerships. Or just not be recognised as a player and the more established player who know each other and play each other regularly will pick on the guy they don't know. In other words they'll have something like an unspoken default position whereby friends are protected and unknown players will be singled out so that point farming can take place. This puts me off the game, any comments welcome. |

at 12:57 PM, Sunday April 21, 2013 EDT This has been a common question basically since the game started - I'd recommend combing through the forum (which has no search function, but Google does pretty well for it).
Basically, sometimes on the higher tables you'll run into people who will gang up on you, or who are blatantly PGAing (pregame Alliance, a type of cheating, against the rules). Other times, new players may have difficulty picking up on subtle moves in top tables, between players who are familiar with each other. This is difficult to combat besides just getting experienced in the game. Usually it's not that top players are ganging up on you, it's just easier for them to see an opportunity for a truce or something with someone they know will take advantage of it. Best advice? Just keep playing. You'll run into jerks, but you'll run into plenty of nice folks as well. Use the chat box, frequently, too. |

at 4:42 PM, Sunday April 21, 2013 EDT This is something that every single player experiences. The best way to deal with it is to simply recognize that it is somewhat of a right of passage. Establish yourself amongst the community, just as every top player has had to do.

the way to not be seen as easy prey and get ganged up on is to establish your role as the alpha male at the table assert your territory and call corner rights, start typing insults in caps to anyone who attacks you, and add BRO at the end of every sentence. You'll be top 3 in no time trust me i have a phd in kdice |

Friends have an upspoken default truce because they are easier to trust. If random players didn't fuck me over every time I tried to truce them there wouldnt be a problem. How do you solve this problem you ask? Prove that you know how to play and can be trusted in truces and you're good. Also, don't become known as the player that complains a lot. No one likes those players. -Just being honest with ya, don't give a fuck if you stay or not, im hardly here. |

at 5:01 AM, Wednesday April 24, 2013 EDT You are right to be put off this game. It is dominated by people who get more fun out of weird alliances and fake internet points than actually playing the game. It's a shame. (BUT THAT IS THE GAME the creepy weirdos who do well here all cry out at once. Yeah, yeah.) My advice: avoid the beginning and end of the month entirely, learn when the fix is in (lots of 1000+ points players show up at a 100 table all at once -- best to sit out), and don't ever think this game will ever be as good as it could have been.
