My vote is as follows:
Worst: 1. Richard Nixon - even before his presidency, he was one evil mofo, nuff said 2. Herbert Hoover - the Great Depression, need I say more 3. George W. Bush, Sr. - often goes under the radar; but really, the Great Recession can be tied to his president Best: 1. Franklin D. Roosevelt - he didn't serve four terms for nothing 2. Eisenhour - ...I like to think that all his flaws can be tied to his evil Vice president 3. Harry Truman - Rarely made decisions based on his own merit and was a lover of peace |

at 11:43 AM, Thursday April 19, 2012 EDT im a republican (in theory), but id put reagan up as one of the worst, as most of the egregious spending started under his watch. and then i would add everyone after him who continued/added to the egregious spending.

at 12:37 PM, Thursday April 19, 2012 EDT Reagan really was bad, you should hate him Thrax since it is his fault we have the Religious right wielding so much power and he started the runaway spending. But I can't expect intellectual honesty from you now can I ;-)
Best: FDR ... ... Worst Reagan Bush Jr Hoover Outside of FDR, I don't think many Presidents really deserve much recognition over the last 112+ years. I would like to put Clinton up their but some of his personal follies really drove the level of discourse in a negative direction but he did do some effective things as President. Kennedy was too short and hamstrung by Vietnam, Teddy outside of the National Parks was pretty up and down, although good at starting positive anti-trust actions continued by Taft. Wilson was rather blah and I am not a fan of the progressive movement of the early 20th century, really fucked up California. Truman and LBJ were both solid but unspectacular same with Eisenhour. Ford, blah. As for the worst, I think Nixon gets a bad wrap because Vietnam wasn't his making and was a calamity when he took office. If he wasn't such a paranoid fuck and didn't have a war I think many of his ideas and policies for government could have lead to a much more efficient and productive federal government. Obama is too early to judge and while I think history will end up viewing him as a pretty average President, neither great or disastrous he hasn't really shown the leadership people want, lucky for him none of his opposition has either. This all goes more towards a broken system in the Capitol more than possibly Obama being completely ineffectual. The Bush's were a toss up, but Jr served longer so he was able to fuck more shit up. Carter was just given bad circumstances and didn't prove effective, although he didn't do anything disastrous. Reagan was the obvious choice for top spot though. Thanks to him we have the religious right crazies, a massive military industrial complex, and massive deregulated corporate culture that has protection from competition thanks to the government. God damn I want to.... oh wait I can't say it the NSA might be watching, thanks terrorists and by terrorists I mean the fascists we have elected. |
