Voltron had more of a storyline than most in that time period, in particular at the beginning of the series.

(By the way, did you know that edited in a complete separate show for the american version? The 'Galactic Council' was not actually part of Voltron but originally part of another series.)

I really enjoyed Volton, and rank it above He-Man, but I think GI Joe was actually popular for longer and had a larger impact.
