What's with the "Diplomacy of One" Culture?

Diplomacy requires two, not one.
So what's up with this culture where the weaker offers diplomacy to the stronger and expects automatic approval? |

at 11:01 PM, Tuesday November 8, 2011 EST it depends on circumstance, sometimes the player that appears stronger is not necessarily stronger, they made be vulnerable to many fronts or opponents (say someone big in the middle). it's all about circumstance and if you know how to use discretion in different circumstances you can come out a head a lot of the time with some well placed diplomacy

at 3:49 AM, Wednesday November 9, 2011 EST Quite simple - there is no obligation to accept a vflag.
Sometimes taking it will prevent you from growing and thus make you a loser. Sometimes you'd get countered right away if you took it. IMHO you should respect real flags if at all possible (sometimes you have to cross to keep fighting or there is some sorting out needed at the end of the game). For vflags - do what's best for you if you get one, BUT communicate it clearly (e.g. "y" is not an answer, it could mean "yes" or "why"). |

it is all about getting the other person to accept your verson of the world, so if you asess that it is etiquette to accept the offer you are giving, then you can trick the other person into accepting, while you can also play tricks like this from every position. it is just a small trick to make the other guy feel like an asshole if he is not nice to you. |
