Why do the split at 1980? Why not 1972? That's when the wage figures and productivity began to diverge. That's also when Nixon closed the gold window and the inflation rate started to increase. Perhaps what we are seeing is the ability of owners of capital to insulate themselves from inflation better than workers can.
