This post was originally in reply to moondust's post against OTF, but I want it to have its own thread.
Who cares about OTF and PGA? I don't. It is part of the game. It cannot be regulated. Part of the fun of this game is playing against that kind of play. I would go as far to say that this site NEEDS OTF and PGA. The forums would be empty without rampant accusations. Without this "evil", many of you would not feel good about yourselves for not cheating. This game in its current form represents life. Life is NOT fair. People lie and cheat all the time. Authorities are not always equipped to catch the criminals. The REAL game is to overcome these obstacles in order to succeed. I don't care how much some of you want it...this will NEVER be a game solely about dice and strategy. You WILL get backstabbed, farmed, PGAed, PGEd, proxied. Some people will get caught and punished for cheating, and some wont. Deal with it. You are living a fantasy if you think this game will be "fair". You are also dreaming if you think that complaining will solve anything, like some magic authority will come help you. No one here can solve the problems you people complain about. I don't care if we have 100 Jurgens, it will not cut out PGA from this game. Learn to embrace this game, it is fantastic! The complexity of the strategy, the relationships, and the ethics makes this game fascinating and keeps us coming back. Good luck and see you on the tables. KDP |

Legalising drugs might actually make sense, but that is a different argument. I am talking about a game, a game in which no one gets hurt. Also, drugs principally are bad at a micro level for the most part. Also, I am saying that PGA is actually good for the game. You would have to argue that drugs are good for society in order for the argument to be analagous. |

at 5:34 AM, Wednesday August 31, 2011 EDT Well, that arguement ist too hard, is it? There is a nice theory that I vaguely recall that any human society is based on drugs. Either they are based on alcohol or they are based on drugs that are smoked (or chewed to include koka). The societies work because they are accustomed to their specific drug and have ways to handle the usually small percentage of members overusing that drug. The temporary disinhibition is not too bad in total. Things get out of hand and trouble is coming up when the other type of drugs is introduced. The society and the people don't have a way (and sometimes not even the genes) to handle that. Alcohol and Native Americans, Heroin and Europe, Alcohol and East Asia - to name some probably oversimplified examples.
So, to stay in the picture, kdice might need some PGA and OTF. It might be the "society building drug" here. On the other hand this also means, that there are some abusing this drug, not controlling it. Those are the once that PGA/OTF/Shit-others too much. Kdice needs a way to handle those as well. The measure to be used is called Mods here, the antidote they apply is different degrees of bans. |
