It's a circlejerk. Why not save time and just take turns winning?

If you don't care so much about points and are just playing to have a good time, THIS IS FOR YOU!

the interesting part of this system is that it removes a huge part of potential pga (sure you can still prevent someone from growing big and get a + for the roll off). Luck plays an important part for your start in every game but this format also allows the players with good table vision to get an early edge and thus get a bonus for the roll off.

I think there is a bit too much weight of the luck factor in this format but then again, someone with one stack rolling a 39 (looks at chase) and grabbing a domless 1st or 2nd can give a fun twist to a game.

This is an interesting game format as long as it does get not too widespread. It does have its limitations of course and solving all the rolls and lagouts will get boring after a few games I think. I would rather see Ryan code a game type that ends after say round 8. Player with most dice gets 1st, etc. You will have very fast games where it will mainly be everyone on their own.

As with team games, everybody at the table needs to be OK with the format. Don't pressure noobs into it too much. The +2 first time noob bonus is a good idea though.

But you guys will have to define the rules (for the + bonusses) as clear as possible.

5v8 still applies to this game I think! I got one but gave it up because it wasn't a real game!

it's important to clear it up in the "rules" because what if someone rolls the lowest 8vx but then rolls a 5v8 and wins that.

not everybody wants to honour 5v8 instawins. Especially with 6 other people alive, your chances are very slim to have everyone agree to take one place lower.

I honour those 5v8s for people I respect but I am not going to be the only nice guy and take 7th if nobody else reacts.

oh yeah, they totally were :P

also, while driving home yesterday I was trying to come up with other playable kdice variations

I wonder if a rolldown type of game can be playable:

(provisional rules)
*you start with a few rounds of normal play, everybody trying to grow the biggest
*if possible: no trucing or weakflagging (but you can't kill anyone)
*when a winner or clear biggest player is emerging, normal play stops
*people can only stack up from now, alternatively: they can also attack 1st with -x rolls and they can still attack each other with XvX or -x rolls (it has to be decided still if someone besides 1st can kill someone else)
* 1st can stack up but he can also take weak lands from opponents (but not focusing on one or more players: the order of strength of all players should be kept)
*when everybody is stacked, the rolldown procedure starts (one attack on 7th, then 6th, 5, etc, after 2nd is hit, it's back to 7th again, etc)

Alternative: as with the deciding of who gets +4 and +whatever bonus in the 1-7 rolloff game, you could agree on something similar after 1st place is decided. You all agree on how many lands everybody gets before the rolldown procedure starts and start attacking each other in order to result in the correct number of lands for everyone. After that it's stack up time. If a player can't be reached by 1st to do the 8v8 needed in the rolldown order, another player can do the 8v8 in his place of course.

hmmm, so in some games , 2 players emerge as about equally strong. If this is the case, you could agree on them being top2 (rolling off at the end, if needed with small bonus for one of them) and they both combined do the rolldown procedure for positions 7 to 3
