at 12:20 PM, Tuesday May 24, 2011 EDT indeed there's not much you can do when both parties reach an accord (kinda like the extension of the bush tax cuts). we definitely need to reform the voting system/election regulations so it's actually possible to vote for candidates based on merit rather than across party lines. I like the alternative vote idea.
That being said I'd draw the distinction between extending the act and wanting it to be permanent. No progressive politician wants it to be permanent and almost all the conservatives want it to be permanent. the libertarians are against it being permanent as well. ultimately there are fear politics still at play here and it's at the expense of all of our rights. |
