at 8:49 AM, Monday May 16, 2011 EDT not the first time that no research into a direction because there is no money to make, but i guess capitalists will say "the market will regulate itself"
The same thing goes for lithium as a psychotropic drug. No research is done since there is no payout (exact same reason as in your article). the companies would rather develop some shitty, uneffective, more side effects than wished effects drugs, which you can get a patent on. but the paradox in which pharmaceutical companies is a whole other topic, and i dont think kdice forums is the right place to discuss it |

at 11:10 AM, Monday May 16, 2011 EDT I was about to make fun of Mr. K, but then Karsten sent a link that is accurate/reliable. So, it seems that DCA isn't as perfect as Mr. K's article would suggest, but there is still plenty of potential there. BTW, if you ever wonder why I call you and Veta ignorant, maybe it's because you link us to such unreliable sources like this article written by "cgull8m." Notice the difference between your sources; Mr. K's says that it killed lung, brain and breast cancer cells without killing any healthy ones. Bingo Bango Bongo. Simple as that huh? Nope it isn't..but still having read the following was exciting for me:
No conclusions can be made on whether the drug is safe or effective in patients with this form of brain cancer, due to the limited number of patients tested by the study's leads Drs Michelakis and Petruk. Researchers emphasize that use of DCA by patients or physicians, supplied from for-profit sources or without close clinical observation by experienced medical teams in the setting of research trials, is not only inappropriate but may also be dangerous. The U of A results are encouraging and support the need for larger clinical trials with DCA. This work is also one of the first in humans to support the emerging idea that altering the metabolism of tumors is a new direction in the treatment of cancer, Michelakis and Petruk said. |
