at 7:58 PM, Tuesday January 4, 2011 EST Can't make a call already, it changes based on teal's moves vs the red 1 die:
If teal wins 2x1 - not unlikely that teal 4x3's green to prevent his connect with not only the 5 up top but the 4 stack on the left (4x3 on blue). Also teal might leave the 4 close to red where it is and stack a 5. If teal loses 2x1 or moves the 2 towards purple - much less likely teal 4x3's green and just 4x1's red, but moves the 4 stack away from the top either way. Anyway, if teal leaves the green 3 - I would 5x2 purple, 4x3 green, and 3x4 purple (to suicide it). I'd take the risk I don't stack a 5 on my 4 up top even though one dice would stack on the suicided lower 3. If teal left his 4 up top and it became a 5, more likely I would restack a 5 in between green's 5 and his 1 island to the south. However, during my turn and if I won the 4x3 on green and before I suicide my 3 down below - would chat to green to consider moving above me to take the top (4x3 and 3x2 connects on blue, with the 5 going through the red top one to connect). Iffy green accepts, but I would offer to take his 1 dice island below if he went above/would agree. Lastly, if teal does win 4x3 vs green, I would only 5x2 purple to connect and 3x4 suicide on purple down below. Green may or may not beat me 5x4 if I restack badly (or 5x5 me), but it's worth a shot. Wouldn't make any offer to green if I had both a 5 and 4 up top. If I lose a 5x4 or 5x5 connect from green to his island - likely 7th anyway, but would probably live through round 3 and less of a dom penalty. |

at 5:41 AM, Wednesday January 5, 2011 EST The problem with this is that I could make a dozen different moves (regardless of what teal does) just depending on who is playing and they would all be the right moves. If I have some sort of OTF with green or teal, or anyone, that changes things dramatically. Ultimately this realization is what separates the very best players from the rest.
As far as what move would hypothetically make the most sense, assuming that no OTFs at all are present and nobody is PGAing, it should be rather obvious if you are at least somewhat competent. But then again, if I think I can truce someone, even if they are a stranger, that would also be a factor in how I move. Anyway, my point is a lot more should go into how you move than just the layout of your dice and territories. By the way, the above is the reason I usually try to feel out my neighbors attitudes at the start of the game, asking questions or making suggestions. Depending on their responses and attitudes I decide who I might offer a truce to later, or what have you. |
