Hi all,
I have a question someone might be able to answer maybe. Restacking, I always thought, way completely random. However, I lately feel there is a non-random part in it too. It appears as if restacking were defensive in the sense that kdice doesnt in tendency stack u next to big opponent stacks. Any knowledge/opinions? thx |

at 7:30 PM, Sunday January 2, 2011 EST i thought this too at one point but that is not true if someone has a 5 stack round two and you have two spaces of your 4 bordering his 5, odds are you will get a 5 or 4 right next to his 5, maybe 50% chance... but no the stacking isnt perfect like that, its completely random, ive played enough games to know

Dice stacking is supposed to be random and I would say it is pretty close to random. You could check its randomness manually but nobody has taken the time to check it in enough detail I think. So just accept you can't control it for real but as explained in the 2 space rule, you can "control" the power of your stacks by doing the correct moves. It's human nature to mainly remember the times when something failed (in this case, the desired restack next to the opponent) but also the stat figures show there is a big % where any chosen land does not receive dice Let's give an example where you have 7 connected lands (none 8stacks) + 1 island = 8 lands total. Every dice is distributed randomly so every of the 8 lands has 1/8 of the chance to receive that particular dice refill. That process is repeated 7 times. The formula to calculate the probability of a land receiving no refills, 1,2...up to 7 is given by: y! / (x! * (y-x)!) * (1/8)^(x) * (7/8)^(y-x) so take any of your 8 lands, it will have a 39,3% chance of receiving no refills; 39,3% for 1 extra dice; 16,8% for 2 dice; 4,0% for 3 dice;0,6% for 4 of those 7 dice and 0,05% for 5 dice. 7 connected + 2 islands will have the following odds for 0-3 extra dice on a land: 43,8% (no refills); 38,4 (1); 14,4% (2); 3,0% (3 extra dice) 7 connected, no islands: 34,0% (no refills); 39,7% (1); 19,8% (2); 5,5 (3) |

at 9:55 AM, Thursday January 6, 2011 EST thx a lot, very clear.
The fact restacking is random is what i wanted to confirm (or not:-). the distribution rules in theory have been heard (studied math), however it is good to see in clear that chances are pretty f***ing high that ur island gets stacked in whatever kind of situation. And yes it's human nature to remember vividly the situation in which 5 of the 7 restack dice result on the island:-(( |
