Jets vs. Patriots (Round 3)

you know what trendz, it was 60 degrees when the Pats had the ball. And yeah, the score does dishearten me a lot (I had much higher expectations out of defense), and it hurts to get shutdown by statistically the worst defense in the league. But there are some things you need not forget:
1. The Jets shutdown Brady in week 2 in a very similar fashion to what they did to us on Monday, except the Pats never even got close to scoring in the 2nd half. Sanchez was picked 3 times in the 2nd half, 2 of which happened inside the Pats' 10-yard line. Even with Folk kicking, you have to figure that those two posessions would have resulted in 6-14 points. 2. Going off of my 1st point, the Patriot defense is still very vulnerable. The next time we face off, Sanchez needs to be very conscious of where he is throwing the ball, and if we minimize our mistakes we will penetrate their territory once again. 3. Rex and Schotty will significantly switch up our offensive attack next match-up. LDT and Shonn Greene will see a lot more touches, for two reasons. Firstly, we need to keep the 2010 MVP off the field as much as we can. Additionally, this will give Sanchez less opportunities to make costly errors. Oh and also because they're fucking good, even my blind uncle commented on how great LDT looked as he cut in and out of tackles. 4. The major difference between Sanchez and Bradys' performances? Brady was hitting his receivers on those short slant routes and screen passes. It killed me to see those same types of passes end up incomplete because Sanchez slightly misfired or the receiver wasn't able to hold onto the ball. 5. The Jets have heart. Moreso than any other team I think. All that bravado from Rex, and the public smack-talking from the entire team build our players' confidence and give us that swag that makes New York the best geographical territory in the world. 6. Advantages(/Disadvantages): QB: Patriots, duh. RB's: Jets (although Woodhead does make a strong case here, you won't be seeing another 50 yard shovel pass out of him) WR's: Patriots have the best slot receiver in the league in Welker, who is basically a 3rd down conversion-machine. But the Jets have the bigger threats in Braylon and Santonio, who can make a big play at any time. I can't take away from the Patriots though, Brady has a lot of options, and he makes decent receivers great. So I'll go with slight advantage Patriots, although I'm leaning more towards it being a neutral matchup. O-Line: Obviously Jets. There's a reason they have the 2nd best running game in the league. D-Line: This seems like a toss-up depending on that given Sunday. With Jenkins out there, opposing teams have to place two men just to contain him, so obviously his absence hurts the Jets. Still, we gave him a decent amount of pressure, and those back-to-back sacks can only be interpreted as a sign of good things to come. I'd be lying to say I was impressed by the Pats pass rush though. Secondary: Jets still have the advantage here, despite this one game. We have arguably the most dominant secondary in the league, and yeah, there were some major mismatches on Monday (especially with that big fucker that was too big and seemingly too fast, which scares me, for Cromartie-but who knows, maybe he was just stressed out about one of his 17 baby mammas). The Jets will adopt in round 3 though, and most likely adjust the schemes and play less man coverage. Coach: As far as strategy goes, yeah Belichick is obviously the better coach here. He's probably the best coach ever, at the very least he is in the top 3. But Rex gives his players confidence whereas Bill just makes them shutup and play. Still, advantage Patriots. So what do you take with you into a huge playoff game: the better leadership in the Brady and Belichick, or the better defense paired with one of the best running games in the league? Obviously you know my choice. And yeah, I am biased, but there is still reason to believe the Jets can and will prevail when it really matters. |

They're tied for 15th in rushing touchdowns, they're 3rd in rushing yards, and they're 7th in yards per attempt. Only the Cheifs have run the ball on a larger percentage of plays than the Jets. Their O-line isn't the cause, it's the fact that the Jets are a ball control team that relys on their defense. Plus, they don't fully trust El Sanchez yet. |
