Two strategy questions for top tier players

1) You are fighting a more or less equal opponent, say you both have 8 territories. You have small neutral stacks in your back. Is it better to attack those stacks or focus on 8v8 fight against the opponent?

2) You are fighting a more or less equal opponent and you are fully stacked (+32). Is it better to roll 7v8 against the opponent or 8v8 against a neutral (if you do not roll either you lose dices cause you are fully stacked).

Might wanna clarify 1, what stacks would be on the neutral territories?

1) focus on the 8v6
2) roll on opponent

Maza, you ask questions to which you already know the answers. But I will point out the obvious. Always go for the opponent exclusively unless you have 3+ rolls of extra dice. (the extras roll decision depends on your risk tolerance) Regarding question 2, always go for the opponent when you are fully stacked + 32. But the battle plane means everything with this question. If you have only a one ter battle front. Hit your opponent and the neutral. If you are vulnerable to a cut, focus on the ter that can cut you.

So I'm not a top tier player, but I know the strategy well.

1. never hit neutral in a 1v1
2. it depends, if its a bottleneck fight or close to it (i.e. you only have 1 or 2 lands that touch), you 7v8 100% of the time. but if you are both big and open to each other, it is good to keep a + stack advantage. i do 7v8s there based on gut-feeling

Basically what snow leopard said. It's subjective but the best way to figure these sorts of situations out, when you don't have time to make a thread about it, is to think into the future a few turns and see where you'd be. Obviously there's some risk either way, so depending on your play style you can decide what move(s) to make. When playing conservatively always assume a pessimistic outlook on your luck for the next few turns, when playing liberally assume a more rosey outlook but never assume that you'll win more than half your rolls, as that's an easy way to make wrong decisions.

Hope that helped Mazaman.

I always try to bent my opponent over in the most uncomfortable of positions.

the trick is to never make it look too uncomfortable or they will never agree to it
