I was playing a game and at some point I truced with brown
I was 4th or 5th dont remember and my ally was 3d or 4th cant remember exactly ; anyway thats not the point.... So we truced and as usual someone asked for a counter. Ok thats logical right? yeah but the thing is that ALL other players countered = 5v2 ! what does that tell to you?? we lost eventually... and got 6-7. I think that truces and counter truces should be even (or at least 1 extra player on a team) for example on that case someone joins us so we're 3 and the are 4. In that way the game would have been fun and interesting - no certainties. On the contrary what we got was a 5 vs 2 slaughter - no fun no strategy just killing (the already weak) allies. what do you think about that ? and its annoying to see how easily people condemn in-game alliances but not v-flags that are seen as something normal and acceptable(....) |

ALOT! If you truce early, or you know youre going to get countered by too many and lose obviously, then you should think about not doing it. |

at 10:04 AM, Thursday May 7, 2009 EDT It is dumb to join in on 5v2 on the 5 side most often as you limit the potential finish you might have with 4 other allies.
If you are in a position to help the 2 you might be able to earn 1st, or if you can stall and build while growing some you might be in good position to get and ally from the other 4 when the 2 original trucers die. People are too quick to flag or truce, the rush often limits peoples potential gain from a game. People really need to learn to think the whole game through and what the chances are off certain finishes given average luck. Than make your moves and alliances based on how risk adverse or seeking you are. I mean I always go in to a game trying to win, some people really are happier to settle for 2nd, sure I want to mutilate the rotting corpses of these losers but hey if that is how you play try to think the game out to how is best to get that spot. |

at 5:05 PM, Thursday May 7, 2009 EDT Psychological point - never truce 3rd+5th. Use words like "cool" or "no threat", but never truce. Truce is too strong, people tend to be scared.
I personally truce only when I actually want to fight us vs. all. Cool, no threat, flag or even silence signals (moving your big stack away, but that only works at higher tables, unknown people are unpredictable) - that all work equally well and you avoid using that horrible satanic word - truce. :-) |
