Verbal Flags

Is it OK to not respect a verbal flag? I was in a game and had about a third of the spots on the board. Everyone except for one player verbally flagged to me. Now, I couldn't move all of my biggest stacks. I had a weak part in the middle, and the one player that wasn't flagged to me was building there.
Here's the question: Should the players flagged to me have helped me fight off the unflagged player? Or should I take out the flagged player so that I could get stronger. I did neither of these, and let the unflagged player but me. I thought that since the other two were flagged to me, they would make sure that I got a higher place than them. What should I have done? |

at 11:33 AM, Sunday March 8, 2009 EDT Kill them and take their land. No matter whether they have vlfagged or real flagged. If it doesn't matter to you, it's a nice gesture to spare them. But if you need the land for your own fight, it's a ridiculous request from them. I know some people bitch about this, but I say fuck them. It would ruin the game if people could just flag all around you and lock you in.
Personally, I think it's lame if vflagged players help a higher player later. Then it's not really a flag, rather a truce with a pre-agreed position order. |

at 2:53 PM, Sunday March 8, 2009 EDT Just say "I need to get to <insert color of unvflagged>" then take the best route to get to that color. Decent players will respect that and wont mind you taking their land, or you can tell them to take back some of your weak lands that doesnt interfere with your fight with the unflagged. If you're bigger most ppl wont take the chance you killing them and as long as you dont screw up their position they should be happy.

Also, who is that on your avatar? :) |

Read the rules. All other rules are enforced by the game itself. If you cannot flag before round 8 is because you are not allowed to do so! Verbal flags are not real. They are just a reincarnation of early flags. Early flags are banned for good. It is not a glitch in the program. The game explicitly forbids them. If you want to truce then say that you want to truce, and we will politely wipe you out of the table. |
