When is an 'ok', 'cool', 'take your 8 stack south' etc... a truce/alliance? And when is it just a temporary ceasefire to avoid mutually assured destruction?

For someone who's played 2500 games in the past 4 months, i'm still clueless on this aspect of kdice.

It's always a truce in my opinion.

I thought it was more like an agreement not to fight. I don't help the other person win, or take him over a flag, but I don't attack him either.

everything except "i flag to u" means truce...But sometimes people get desperate because they know they'll get wiped out,and they try to manipulate and convince others for that the sentence above means truce which it doesn't unless the flagger asks for the other party for help or moving a stack etc...

I disagree there DD, when you flag to a person you agree you will not fight for any position above them in return for a ceasefire. The flagger and the person being flagged to both gain an advantage (- 1 enemy), while everyone else still has the same amount of enemies.

Then there's the situation when the person who you flagged to starts losing his 1st. Do you let him take your 2nd flag and reflag 3rd? No. You fight with the person you flagged to regain his 1st and keep your 2nd. This is exactly the same as a bog standard alliance.

Anyway, back to the original subject, what is wrong with the kdice community's vocabulary? When an 'ok', 'cool' and 'truce'* all mean let's form an alliance and secure 1st/2nd for ourselves.

*Truce means cessation of hostilities in english NOT help each other. Isreal would definitely not agree to a kdice truce with hamas.

See the problem with any words "Im cool" "Take your stack south" heck even "I flag to you" means I wont attack you so I can focus on someone else. If that person does agree not to attack you it is an alliance. Semantics does not change the fact that two people not attacking each other means they can focus on someone else and that makes it bad for the others playing. That is the reason I try to counter any of these statements. You being "cool" with someone means you are not "cool" with me

well put rowd, but it doesn't always mean that it's a truce. sometimes i'm cool lasts 3 turns because it becomes no longer profitable to not attack eachother.

and lmao @ storm, that is too any games in 4 months but then again... some people like to play 1500 games in one month...

*cough* addicts *cough*

I agree all those statements benefit each other and hence disbenefit you and it would be rational to form counter measures.

"If that person does agree not to attack you it is an alliance. "

My question was are they actually forming an 'alliance'? Or as fishnetangel put it just a ceasefire until it's not in 1 parties self-interest anymore?

To make things clear, when I say 'alliance', I mean both partners goals are to maxmimize both of their positions. When 1st would have been secure they will help there partner to get 2nd place even 'disrespecting' flags, possibly risking their own 1st place in doing so. Or to make it even clearer: alliance>flags.

Interesting question. For some players "cool" means full truce (to help each other to win 1/2), and to some players it means like gerefi said just not to attack each other (but no other help). I think "cool" should be different from truce, so that kdice players can have more diplomatic options.
