Flags, chat, and player id disabled. You are assigned a number/letter when you enter the tourney so there are no pga's, no pge's, and no truces.

yeah, would be fun, but everytime something like this was suggested, people would say things like "play dicewars" or that there will be even more cheating by means of instant messaging.
while it is almost impossible to make a more stupid statement than "play dicewars" the second argument remains valid.

Still, its worth a try!

There might be some cases in when your idea would work very well.

However, due to the design of some tournament maps, the lack of arrangements (flags in particular) would lead to major chaos and most games would never end
(i.e. endless battles to prevent that the player with the most territories would win).

I am very curious to see what would be going on, but shev is right when he says that people would increasingly use IMs to cheat.

I just thought of other possibilities to improve your suggestion, but I'm afraid that all kind of changes to the current system have at least one disadvantage.

First rule of 'fight till you die tourneys' is don't talk about fight till you die tourneys.

Small tournies like this would be cool. Fuck people that want to cheat, progress can't be stopped because we think some people will exploit it.

I think flags should be allowed, but no chat or ID. Maybe a daily 50 buyin tourney with small bonus?

Messenger cheating would be more difficult if each player saw his playing field as purple.
