The proxy variable for tourney winnings is draw, which is total score less earned points. Draw includes net tourney winnings plus membership bonus plus star purchases plus zero score reset. This early in the month, many of the top 100 are members who have not yet tapped their membership point reserves.

at 1:30 PM, Tuesday January 6, 2009 EST skrum, couldn't Ryan create a read-only account to the database so you could run some queries on the side? Or at least access to a backup if he's worried about a bad query ruining the system. You could run some far more interesting (and much easier for you to do!) analysis if he were interested.

:D Thanks Skrum |

at 5:41 PM, Tuesday January 6, 2009 EST sorry - that wasn't meant to imply anything negative about these stats.
However, if skrum could just run a query every month it would save him a great deal of time, and let him do some more complex analysis. |

at 12:40 PM, Saturday January 10, 2009 EST A bad query could certainly bring the system to its knees, although you are correct in that it would not corrupt the data.
Performance is a primary concern for Ryan. He said a primary reason for not using a better, fully-functioned, standard forum with features like editing, searching, consistent formatting, and rich text is that he would not have control over a potential performance problem. (I'd point you to the forum thread, but I can't exactly go search for it.) Of course, I think that's bunk since there's some incredibly well developed, completely free forum solutions out there that would be a significant improvement (and that power sites with thousands of users,) but I don't run the show here. (Pretty funny that someone using the google toolkit for his product would be against using another robust product developed by others.) |
