Am I the only one tired of asshole players?

I can't count the number of games I've played that have been ruined by assholes who ...

A) flag 2nd and then attack the guys competing for 1st
B) annihilate flagged players while verbally harassing them
C) refuse Player X's flag because X had attacked one of his territories a few rounds earlier
D) think a flag is a truce and use that logic to justify their annihilation of one of the 1st-place contenders (see (A))
E) beg for a truce with a powerful neighbor game after game after game (I stupidly accepted one of these truce requests, and then, when a type (D) player butchered me, the truce-beggar rode it out, ignoring our truce, and flagged 4th when the flagged player killed me) -- in other words, flag whore

... or what have you. These sorts of trolls are all but nonexistent on 2500+ servers (as you can imagine), but they absolutely plague 0-500 servers.

Anyway, this is obviously just a rant, but am I the only one who consistently loses points and patience to these players? It's ruining an otherwise great game of diplomacy.

Could some sort of justice system possibly be implemented (e.g. branding the profiles of flagged players who attack players of higher position)?

Ryan doesn't care about lower level play............the witch hunt is a little higher.

But thanks for bringing light to potential issues on the lower tables.

this was a refreshingly good read. i had to reread the 2500/500 sentence 3 times before i fully realized that he was accusing 500 players of more lame play and unfairness than 2.5k players. well said, sir. well said.

Yes, Thraxle, but it's so hard as a nonmember to get reach high-level tables without domination.

I apologize for the poor sentence structure. My thoughts aren't exactly crystal clear at the moment ...

And Thrax, I don't know if "making light of ..." is belittling me, but in July, my first and last "serious" month of playing this game, I did get 4500 points after nearly capping 5000 (312th place). That may be trivial compared to you of three trophies, but I don't think it's anything to laugh at.

I hope Ryan reads this post, because that was one thing that upset me about his culture change topic. He completely and totally ignored the issue on lower level tables. If he is truly going for a culture change, and if he is honestly hoping for a fair, respectable game, then he better as hell realize that lower level tables and higher level tables alike need to be held to the same standard. A jerk and a cheater on a 500 tables is just as bad as a jerk and a cheater going for first. But apparently we support a society that cares only about those who are going for gold. The rest of us obviously live in ignorant bliss where we don't even know or care when play is the same as the higher level "culture".

aka i agree Calcul.

I wasn't belittling you cal..........I agree with monte.......it was nice to hear complaints about someone other than 2.5K players.

if those things ruin the game for you and they occur too frequently.... don't play!

all those behaviours and more are perfectly legal. you can judge them as stupid or destructive or whatever, but that's just your judgement, those who do those actions feel differently.

what your rant is really saying is that you want the world to change to suit your personal preferences. Isn't gonna happen. either don't play or go change the world. whining in here won't change anything.

Ryan based this game on 2 others and made improvements. I suggest you take Ryan's game and go do the same thing to add the much needed layer of red tape you seem to desire. Perhaps each player could fill out a form in triplicate and then wait 2 weeks for non-asshole move approval before making each move. Or alternatively, you could just distribute the points equally regardless of outcome.... like the commie you are! :-P

the funny thing is, soon better player will keep other fair player in mind, and later they start to favor them. so the asshole players wont be on higher level gaming for a long time - except some pgas i guess.

just play your own game Calcul, and remember: this isn't dicewars, its social gaming. attacking everyone, just cause you could, isnt the best idea.

whatever... youll adept (;
