I have tended to favor XC's Rule #7, which is to keep your big stacks back a bit, on the second tier, instead of on the front. It tends to make a more open game, but you have a risk of losing access to the front for your big stack, and the strategy does not work if two players are attacking toward your big stack.

It's also fun to offer to stop attacking a player if he flags for second.

Act nice and low key. While doing this stack behind others. You seem like you are not a threat. Wait for them to start ripping each other to pieces and then BAM! you do surprise attack behind their backs and win.

aggression, 100% of the time. Get to 1st, and pressure everyone who is even close to taking 1st from you. Cut, and kill neighbors, and ally people who have taller stacks. Run it like a tyrant king, and no one will ever come close to attacking your kingdom.
