pros and cons of Nuclear, solar, bio fuel, coal, oil, natural gas and others anybody?
ill jump on nuclear a lil bit first First off at least in the states nuclear energy has a negative stigma to it. Many think that it is dangerous to the public or leads to weapon proliferation. Both these statements are simply not true. To this day there has been only one nuclear power plant related incedence, and it was due largely to incompetence and a lack of communication. Also it should be noted that although a bi product of most uranium reactors is in fact a weapons grade uranium. However just getting weapons grade Uranium doesn't mean you can build a bomb. There are a lot of tedious calculations that go into calculating critical mass as well as the design complications. Also since all Power plants are regulated by an international oversight, it would take many many years to siphon out enough weapons grade uranium (or plutonium) to amount to enough to make a weapon. that now being mildly addressed (i will elaborate further if anybody wants me too) the advantages of nuclear power are simply put. *No green house gasses or other types of enviromental pollution *Hi energy out put for several years *very large source of readily available fuel *minimal space requirement some of the disadvantages are: *requires extensive governmental and international regulation. *produces Highly radioactive bi product usually with a long half life (the British have had some success with recycling their fuel though so this may some day not be a problem) Discussion? |

at 6:41 AM, Thursday October 30, 2008 EDT I think this topic must have already been discussed here so many times over and over, that its kinda boring (if not, and this trully is first such topic in this forum, then congrats deten for filling a yawing gap, which for some really weird reason nobody saw before).
I agree with your promotion of nuclear power. It sure brings in some dangers, but all other options are (a) inefficient (b) highly polluting, so i don't see much space to make other choice. |
