Flagging makes kdice boring (?)

I have looked at a few games recently and they seem to follow the same pattern:
- after a few rounds one player gets slight advantage over others;
- the second player flaggs and cries: "I flag!!"
- the third player sees that he we will be the one being attacked by the two strongest, so he quickly flags for 3'rd
- some fight follows for who will get 4'th, interrupted by additional cries: "respect flags!", "I am flagged, you idiot!"
- and the game is over.
The only variations: fight for 2'nd, when two players flagged as 2'nd - or SO DRAMATIC fight for 3'rd, when two players flagged for 3'rd...
Isn't it boring???

I disagree.

Your example is a bit exaggerated, it is not representative and it neglects that the flag system also fulfils important FUNCTIONS.
Most importantly, however, you failed to provide alternative ideas.

Ryan did a brilliant job when he implemented the flag system...
...A brilliant job because it has many advantages and gives the game some structure.

- Flags are the easiest way to allocate a place to each of the 7 players, without having to play 30 minutes (or more) until all players (except the first) are defeated. It's still KDice we are talking about...not DiceWars.
FLAGS MAKE A GAME SHORTER
-->This is a good thing, because you can play more games and you will get more opportunities.

- Also: What is wrong with SECURING ONE'S POSITION? There can be games in which you had the first place for many rounds (let's assume you got it with the help of your strategy) and suddenly you have many bad rolls, you keep losing terretories and get beaten back into 2nd position. I think it is already frustrating enough to lose a safe 1st...
So what is wrong with (at least) securing the 2nd place for yourself??????????

- Last but not least: Think of the players who are not fluent in English. I think the flag system is a good help for them to easily show that they are willing to surrender.

agree with moondust, flags allow tedious situations to be resolved quickly

I solve this by publicly ridiculing early or untenable flags. Someone who links seven tiny islands and then hurls up a 2nd place flag will not get it respected by me (nor should he). To me, a flag represents the raiser's idea that he could hold what he has, or at least could make a realistic attempt. Flagging with loads of two- or three-stack territories puts you at the mercy of those around you, AS IT SHOULD. Flagging when eight-stacked all the way around is the most secure and easy to respect.

Since dom doesn't max till round 12-14 now why not make it so you can't flag 2nd or 3rd until later in the game? This would encourage a bit more fair fighting.
