Truce or Pact?

What is the definition of a truce?

Wiktionary says:

truce (plural truces)

1. a period of time in which no fighting takes place due to an agreement between the opposed parties
2. an agreement between opposed parties in which they pledge to cease fighting for a limited time

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/truce.

This means that you do not have to fight the opponent your ally is fighting to honor a truce. If we'd follow the definition on Wiktionary it would mean that an alliance isn't that much more powerful then a flag, and more importantly a player can honor both at the same time by either not attacking at all.

so we should forget the truce>flag thing or move on to a new word.

Have a nice day.

The players of kdice do not believe in this "wickshunarie" you speak of. In fact, you have been labeled as an infidel, and you shall subsequently be stoned until a state of medical death has been reached, which is to be confirmed by our resident doctor.

infidel (plural infidels)

1. A non-believer of a certain religion
2. One who does not believe in a certain principle
3. One with no religious beliefs.

Hold on there, pal. You're mixing words. "Truce" is an end to hostilities. "Alliance" is a whole 'nother thing. "Alliance" does imply unifying against a common foe. Seems to me that if you're gonna dictionary up, you'd better pay better attention to your writing.

in kdice truce=alliance, because in the beginning all players are at war with each other.

yes, but does truce mean protection?
We have two situation.
1st is. Player doesnt attack each other but everyone play for himself.
2nd. Player doesnt attack each other but stronger player protect his alliance friend and doesnt respect flag from others just to make his friend 2nd.
I think 2nd solution is unfair. Truce doesnt mean protection. Truce mean only mutual not attacking.

True Improv. I have never been a master with words and english isn't my native language. You got my point right?
I think an "Alliance" isn't fair in most games. someone who played a strong game can get raped because an almost tied second place allies third.
of course there are exceptions (counter truce, lands owned by second a third together are equal to or less then the ones owned by first)

Agreed, Zerg. I think we could use both words. "Truce" for stopping attacks, and "alliance" (which is already part of the acronym "PG_A_") for stopping attacks AND assistance.

That said, there's enough resistance to formality in the kdice community that trying to standardize chatbox language becomes a bit like trying to mop up a storm surge with a tampon.
