i decided to watch a 10k before i left today, just to watch the drama. upmax was deciding whether to attack murti on one side or johnson on the other. i advised to attack johnson for two reasons: 1) he was very low stacked, 2) ofc i would like to finish above him this month, i admit that, heh.
so upmax, instead of attacking either one, decides to use an 8stack island on the opposite side of the map to try to mutilate madhatsam. which i immediately chided him for, because it made him throw all his stacking dice to the other side of the map where they were useless, and he needed dice in his main base to fight either murti or johnson. in the end, upmax let johnson keep all of his small stacks, even let him connect through him too, and then murti attacked upmax, and the battle was on. eventually johnson got 1st. upmax ended up getting taken out by murti, and got 4th. afterwards, sam and i were both spamming the chatbox lecturing upmax about how his strategy was ass-stupid (opening a 2nd base to take out someone you arent concerned about?). i told sam to log on aim, to discuss the suspiciousness of this game. upmax decided to log on too, to chat with me i guess. my convo with UpmaxM (not his brother): [17:48] M Upmax: i hate johnson [17:48] M Upmax: right now [17:48] M Upmax: rly a lot [17:48] llcooljoe7: well, we'll see if you hate him for the next several games [17:48] M Upmax: i mean [17:48] M Upmax: i only killed MHS [17:48] M Upmax: because he asked me to [17:48] M Upmax: i was going to take bottom [17:48] llcooljoe7: who asked you to? The more things change the more the old ways come back because in the end it is easier to win a game that has been predecided then to win a game that is based on luck. The real shame isn't that people aren't playing the game fair, the shame is that it works so well to play the game unfairly. The only question left is to ask if it is harder to cheat now then before. I say no, I think playing unfair now is more effective because ammasing points is alot easier to do when you have help then having to maintain a high elo where 1 bad start could drop you from 2290 to 2200 and you might never sniff 2300 again. |

at 6:56 PM, Friday June 27, 2008 EDT I have to admit that I am probably one of the worst of the circle-jerkers, given that I rely on the kindness of friendly players and have mediocre playing skills at best. I also cannot comment about the elo era, because I wasn't around then. But I can say that the whole concept of using AIM offends me in a very basic way. There are enough opportunities to game the system semi-legitimately, such as MSAK, circle-jerking, flaggoting, etc. But scamming by using AIM is just blatant cheating, plain and simple. It is a smarmy practice at any time, but to use it to win a 10k elevates the offense from petty theft to grand larceny. The whole episode, if true, leaves me outraged and slightly nauseous.

at 9:55 PM, Friday June 27, 2008 EDT I agree that in-game AIMing and strategy coordination is especially egregious. I think Johnson should be banned for at least a month for offclient AIMing during the game, and I think Monte earned a much less severe punishment for off-client AIMing between games.
Aint NOBODY GONNA DO SHIT ABOUT IT! 1) Will there be any severe punishment for IM during games (you attack north I will attack south)... I BET NOT! 2) Will there be any moderate punishment for IM between games (for example "I'm playing kdice now come meet me, join me at this table, sorry about last game I owe you one, I hate this player lets get him, etc...)... I BET NOT! By the way Johnson, Monte and The Cabal did ruin the game. It will be very difficult for the moderators to discourage all the offclient IMs, circle jerking favors, etc. The game has been so poorly managed for so long, we are probably past the point of saving it. So Johnson while it is indeed Monte and his crew who pioneered cheating, that doesnt make it ethical or acceptable for you to cheat. BAN EVERYONE! |
